Text-based games

At the moment I have two other games in partial states and hopefully one of them will come along more quickly... although even there, artist stall-out can happen unexpectedly.

I know that it wouldn't be your usual Hanako style game, but I really do enjoy your games for the story rather than the cute graphics (though that doesn't hurt, of course) so... have you ever thought about a (mostly) text based game?

This suggestion probably doesn't belong in the MD thread Neutral

I was involved in the Interactive Fiction (also known as text adventures) fandom years back - I still pay vague attention to them, and things like the ChoiceOfGames site get mentioned here occasionally.

However, it's my understanding that there's not a lot of commercial market for mostly-text on the PC. Some people are doing it on phones, which is cool, but not a space I'm equipped to compete in.

If you look really hard you can find some of my old text adventures free but I wouldn't recommend it!

One of the games I'm trying to work on at the moment is a visual novel with more *novel-like* segments... that is, it shifts between typical talking heads where you click after every line, and longer passages of description and narration where you can read a decent-sized page at a time. Will it work? We'll find out, hopefully.

I will be very, very curious to see how an American audience likes that. I, for one, love long story segments and play these for the story, so I have no problem with them, but I know they are more standard in Japanese VNs and dating sims than American ones. So I'm curious how people will react, but I can already promise if you release that one I'll definitely love it. Very Happy

I definitely play your games mostly for the story lines and plot twists, and since I love reading books anyways I would probably love this game since it would have the structured element of a book, but the interactive ability of a visual novel/stat game. Smile
