text adventure programs?

I have always (to me, at least) had great ideas for games. Mainly detective/murder plots. However, I am rubbish with graphics. Is there a good, simple, easy program to use to design a text-based adventure?

One program I've tried was Windows Frotz, which displays text adventures wonderfully, but I'm still learning how to program them for that program.

There are lots of text adventure tools of varying levels of difficulty and completeness - Back when I was doing this, I used TADS because it was the most similar to the C++ I was using in school.
