I want to like this game, but what I am seeing far isn't really filling me confidence. I dislike Luke, Helen and Tanya. Tom's the only one who's somewhat decent.

There doesn't seem to be any reason why Tanya likes, err I mean scarily obsessive about Luke, who she only met a few day ago. Then there's Helen and Luke who's been dating for 10 years, but still haven't gotten anywhere past the friends with benefits stage.

hanako

#3 by hanako - Jul 24 2009

Yes, the relationships are all a bit strange! I spent my first playthrough just trying to make Luke break up with Helen for good - and despite their relationship completely tanking he still seemed unwilling to actually call it quits.

I find the characters a little hard to relate to, but there are so many choices to make and so many endings that it's fun playing around with their lives and just seeing what happens. There are all kinds of variations in the way each scene can play out, it's great for experimenting with.

Just don't get emotionally invested, or it might be upsetting when they all go insane and kill each other. Smile

(In case it's not clear, I didn't write this, I'm still playing it myself!)

Since I wrote it I want to explain Smile
Some girls (Helen) are really in blind love with someone (I know this happened for real to me) and are unable to let them go no matter how bad he treats them. So this explain why she can't find the courage to break with him despite all the happenings. In the beginning, it is explained also that in last 50 years only 1 couple out of 10 gets married, so this has also relationship with the (crap) world that is in 2099.
Also (spoiler):
Helen is secretly dating Tom and feel guilty for this

Tanya is so obsessive with Luke probably for some reasons like (spoilers):
She's basically awakened 100 years after, she's shocked and Luke in a way or the other is the first human being with whom she has a contact. Later in game she ask if she can sleep, but not for sexual reason but because she just wants to stand nearby a human being.

Ok hope this makes things a bit clearer about the characters relationships.

I actually really liked this game :D! I liked all the characters,in fact. I found the videos that were posted really amusing and,now that I actually played the game,I don't find it disappointing at all xD! After replaying the game and choosing other options,I got 3 endings, just in the demo :P.

It's well designed at least and the little changes that the story makes if you choose different reactions to certain events makes it interesting to play. For me,at least! And I love Tom *___*

I really like this game. But, I'm having trouble getting all the endings. I've only gotten a couple so far.

hanako

#7 by hanako - Aug 3 2009

I'm hoping a walkthrough will turn up eventually (nudge, nudge, jack!). I've gotten most of the endings but not all, it'd be nice to have a simple guide to catching the few I've missed!

jack_norton

#8 by jack_norton - Aug 3 2009

Well here is the full list of endings, let me know which ones you're missing mostly. I've been asked the same thing in my forums as well so I'll put up a thread there with some tips for the most difficult ones (some are really easy to get).

The endings:
"Luke never meets Tanya"
"Luke tries to shoot Tanya"
"Jealous Tanya kills Helen"
"Tanya kills Luke"
"Luke becomes a robot"
"Tanya kidnaps Luke"
"Tanya is arrested by police"
"Tanya had a soul too"
"You escape to Mars"
"Luke ends his life in jail"
"Luke and Tina prisoners"
"Luke is killed by Julia"
"Tanya is a serial killer"
"Tanya loves Luke"
"Bionic... hearts"
"Richard's menace"
"Julia the fortune-teller"
"Luke marries Tanya"
"Luke the great scientist"
"Luke's sacrifice"
"A new dawn"
"Mark & Julia"
"Not an illusion"
"Happy Ending"

I'm missing

tanya kidnaps luke
Luke ends his life in jail
Bionic... hearts
Luke marries Tanya

It's not that most endings are difficult to get, it's just that after a while you lose track of all the things you have and haven't tried! So a full guide of which choices to make is useful to pick up the stragglers.

There you go:

with the clues you should be able to see all the endings. Some endings have 2 variations though with small differences (but still present, if you want really to see 100% of the game!) Cool

Sorry, I fixed a bug in a very early version of the game that prevented that ending, probably you bought it before I put the new version online. You just need to redownload the game from this page:
http://www.winterwolves.net/customer/index.php
entering the email you used to order.

I'm sorry about the problem! Embarassed

Biawog

Maybe what you have been doing is about Professor Mark's job offer? To get this ending, you must reject his offer (I think so,at least) and make Helen stay in Luke's apartment. That's how I got it :). Hope that helped in anything

(sorry for the late reply ><)

Mark's offer

#20 by mpeijzel - Oct 4 2009

How do I get Mark's offer? It seems to be needed for some of the endings, but Mark never offered me anything.

hanako

#21 by hanako - Oct 4 2009

As best I remember it, at one point you had the option to look up information in the work database that might relate to Tanya.

Mark has flags in the database on that sort of information, so when you poke around, he notices, and comes to talk to you.

Biawog

#22 by Biawog - Oct 5 2009

How do I get an invitation from Julia to an "interview"? It's needed in three endings and I'm only missing those :/. Maybe I should say to Helen that Tanya is a secret project? Or not?

Thanks for any help :)

another question / BUG

#23 by mpeijzel - Oct 5 2009

POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW!!!

Thanks! After experimenting, I finally found that out by trying some things.
I was scared that I would blow the cover for Tanya if I would query that database, and that's why I never tried it in the game!

BUG FOUND:

But I finally tried it (clicking on Database query), got the offer from Mark, and I accepted it.
But I have a new problem: when I accept the offer, and work a day for Mark, then my game keeps repeating itself. It's just like the game jumps from day #4 to day #3 or so... (Actually it jumps from the Chapter 4 story to the Chapter 3 story, but it still says Chapter 4 in the game.) It only happens when I accept the offer. At night, I get to choose again whether to sleep at Helen's or to go to my house. When I sleep at Helen's and directly go to my work, Helen gets killed (ending #3). (But that was the same sequence of events from the day before! Also, Helen talks AGAIN about that officer that visited her store and tried out clothes.)
Also, when I sleep at home, I wake up AGAIN at night with the shower issue, but this time nobody is in the shower (the buttons 'go out' and 'bathroom' only beep and do nothing. No response or sound from anyone. But when I click 'call police', the usual thing happens (Ending). It's the only working button!
When I get around this by visiting Helen, sleeping with Helen, visiting my own house, talking with Tanya, and finally going to work (the only sequence that prevents killing Helen), I have the usual working day, and at 6 PM I again invent the same thing over and over again.

The game really loops here. This is the case with the version I downloaded on September 26 (by buying it from the author's website), but also with the new version that I downloaded on October 4.

I started a fresh new game after installing the new version, to avoid savegame conflicts. I made choices to make Helen like me, I queried the database, accepted the offer from Mark, and then I chose 'Helen should not know everything' because I wanted to get Endings #11, #19, #20.

Please let me know if someone can reproduce ending #11, #19 or #20 by using the most recent game download, or whether it's a known bug.

For me, the game just loops over and over again.

Hm will take a look. I remember I fixed something in chapter 3, but was a minor problem. Now I don't want that fixing that minor problem I caused a major bug instead...!
Will let you know.

P.S: what version are you playing? Pc/mac/linux?

Hi Jack,

I use the PC version (on Windows Vista).

When I compare the two downloaded versions, they differ binary. Which means that you probably have uploaded an updated version since I bought it. But BOTH PC versions (downloaded Sep 26 and Oct 4) have the same problem of looping when I accept Mark's offer.

Please let me know if you can get these endings with the PC version from around Oct 4, and tell me which choices I should make to avoid the looping.

I also have trouble with ending #24, by the way. I'm quite sure that both involved characters have a high enough Compassion value, and I meet the other requirements you wrote about on this forum. But I keep getting another ending instead. But maybe I forgot some small thing, I should try that again.

jack_norton

#27 by jack_norton - Oct 6 2009

So, I played several times and still I couldn't find the looping Embarassed

The ideal is if you have a saved game in that point and you could send me. I tried lot of times but even picking different choices I was never getting that loop Sad
You had bad luck since it seems like being stuck in the loop is harder than avoiding it (I'm pretty sure since I really tried playing picking different choices many times).

On Pc the savegame folder should be under:
C:\users\YOURUSERNAME\appdata\roaming\renpy\Bionic_Heart-1.0

there are various numbered save files, if you have a game saved in the loop I can find out which variables aren't triggered correctly and fix it Smile

Biawog:

Thanks for any help Smile
This is a bit tricky Smile
First you must betray Tanya's by accepting Helen suggestion to go to the police (after you say that you'll stay at Helen's place). The next day at work when Julia invites you to the interview you must REFUSE (if you accept other events happens and you never get to the interview).
Then you have to work until late for the bugs, and once you leave office you go to helen's place (tanya is with her). You tell her about what happened and she suggest you and Helen go with Tom at the interview.
Helen will try again to convince you to go the police but you must pick "Meet Tom" choice.
From that point, save! The interview is quite fun and based on the choices you can have several endings, so better if you save Smile

jack_norton

#29 by jack_norton - Oct 7 2009

mpeijzel was right, there's a bug, which can be avoided though. I post it here in case someone gets stuck:

<spoiler>
You accepted Mark's offer and you arrive at the break-up point where you choose if Helen must know about your story or not.
The steps are:
- Helen shouldn't know more
- Listen to Tanya
- Tom deserved it
- Work (4 times)
- Ask for a break
- Ask about Tom
- Beg him
- Tell you quit
- Public Gardens (I really need fresh air here)
- Office (finish working day)
the bug happens ONLY if you get back to your office WITHOUT meeting with tom in his flat.
So to avoid the loop you just need to click on Tom's Flat in the map, and then either meet him at the park or simply go back to your office (and this time the story will go on normally).

Will do an update to the game probably next week (depending how busy I am) since it's not a plot-stopping bug (there's a workaround).
Thanks to mpeijzel for finding out this hard-to-spot bug Smile

Ending #24

#30 by mpeijzel - Oct 9 2009

I still can't get ending #24.

I have all the following:

SPOILER in white text below

Helen's attribute is at least 100
Tanya's attribute is somewhere around 70
I did and did not sleep with Tanya (I tried both options)
I stayed in the office, except the first day with Tom
I lied to Tom about Tanya (to avoid the Mars ending)
I told Helen everything when the three of us were at my place
When the robots arrive, I hid in the wardrobe.
I did not do any research about Tanya in the database, and I did not get or accept any offer from Mark.

What have I done wrong? What should I do as well? I always end up with ending #23.

jack_norton

#31 by jack_norton - Oct 10 2009

If you reach the point where you hide in the wardrobe, and see the scene of richard arrested on TV, then the ONLY cause is the wrong relationship values.
The line of code is quite clear and bug-proof:
    if attributes[Ptanya]>50 and attributes[Phelen]>60:
        jump happyending
    else:
        jump tanyatom
so either you don't have >50 for Tanya or >60 for helen, there is NO other possibility sorry (on this I'm 100% sure).

mpeijzel

#32 by mpeijzel - Oct 10 2009

Hi Jack,

I believe that your code is ok! Very Happy

However, I'm quite sure that the last entry of Helen has the ENTIRE bar filled, and I did nothing but please her! So that value must be >= 100%.

Also, I never let Tanya down. Her bar is at least 2/3 full, so that must be above 50%.

I'm wondering if there is a way to check the attribute values before entering this screen?
Do the values rotate to 0 when they go above 100%, i.e. 120% becomes 20%?

How can I check if I have the right values? Can you check your code if there is a place where the attribute value LOWERS (or is set at a specific low value) WITHOUT displaying the relationship bar for a short while?

What I'll try out for now is to keep Helen below 100%, to see if that makes a difference for the ending.

Thanks,

Marcel.

mpeijzel

#33 by mpeijzel - Oct 10 2009

Yes, my suspicions were right. When I get more than 100% for a character, the comparison fails: 130% is "LESS than 60%" for this game. This is a limitation of RenPy, I think.

I just replayed, and I annoyed Helen once or twice, so she would stay below 100% with her relationship. I end around 65-70%, and I finally get that ending #24!

For the technical people: I think the relationship is a small integer that goes from 0-100 (wrapping around 100) or from -128 to +127, where they wrap. So +130 relationship becomes -126. Maybe RenPy can change this in a future release of their Game Design Kit.

Marcel.

jack_norton

#34 by jack_norton - Oct 11 2009

Hm that's really strange Smile I think isn't a fault of renpy since I use python code.
However in the stat changing routine I'm doing:
                if new_attributes[id]>100:
                    new_attributes[id]=100
even if before I do a conversion to int with:
new_attributes[id]=int(new_attributes[id])
so maybe the bug is there. Thanks for reporting it, I'm going to investigate to understand if is an error of renpy or (more likely) mine Laughing

additional information

#35 by mpeijzel - Oct 30 2009

Hi Jack,

I reinstalled the game on my computer, and deleted all savegames.
I restarted the game and wrote down every choice I made.
The first time I got ending #23 instead of #24.

Finally, I am able to reproduce ending #24.

One step is VITAL: if you don't do it, then Helen's affection drops to 25 or 30 WITHOUT the game noticing you!

SPOILER BELOW THIS LINE IN WHITE TEXT

After you lie to Tom about Tanya, you go to the office.
Click 3 times on "Work".
Now is the vital part: if you click on "Stay in office", Helen's affection drops to 25 or 30, and the game does NOT notify you about this!
Instead, click on "Holomap", "Public Gardens", and meet both women. Afterwards, choose "Go back to the office". Now Helen's affection is as high as it was before, and you can still get ending #24.

My background:
Going to the park at this point puts you at risk, since you might contact both Tanya and Helen. Helen's affection may get hurt by this. Because of this, I often clicked on "Stay in the office", but once I accidentally clicked on the above three choices instead. Then I saved the game, without remembering this. It took me more than 30 hours to crack this "bug", but I found it!

END OF SPOILER

Jack: please either remove the "drop to 25 or 30" from this point in the script code, or mention to the player that this affection drop has occured.

Also, if anyone still needs all the clicks to get ending #24, then just let me know, and I'll post them in a new message in this thread!

another bug

#36 by mpeijzel - Oct 30 2009

Hi Jack,

I found another, new bug:

In the version I downloaded on October 4, I was able to get ending #23 in the following way:

(spoiler in white below)

Just choose everything to get ending #24, but rather than hiding in the wardrobe, you take the Phaser Gun from the Night stand. Then join the fight in the living room.

(spoiler in white above this line)

However, in the newest version I downloaded on October 29, I am no longer able to get ending #23 in this way:

(spoiler in white below)

I can't take the gun anymore in the end of the game!
When inspecting the Night stand, it tells "I find a gun in here", but it does not take the gun. Also, there is no option to take it. (In the beginning of the game I can still take the gun. But no matter whether I take it, or leave it there in the beginning, it becomes unselectable in the end.)

For ending #23 there is a workaround (just get in wardrobe and make sure the women have low affection), but ending #14 seems to be blocked now! When I try to leave the room, I get a message that I can't go that way unarmed.

(spoiler in white above this line)

Please let me know if you can still get ending #14 with the newest uploaded version of the game.

jack_norton

#37 by jack_norton - Oct 30 2009

About the first, it's not a bug but indeed the game doesn't notify you about it. It actually drops both Helen & Tanya ratings since Luke in the game decide to focus on work more than relationships. I thought wouldn't make much sense to notify of a change if the character isn't even present Smile
(I mean in real life sometimes you make bad decision that affect other peopel feelings towards you, but you don't always realize it!)

About the 2nd bug, is true Sad I really dont' know how ,but I didn't copy the updated file inside the bundle!! I'm going to send it to you by email (I should still have it) and will also upload a fixed version again... sigh
