Summer Session help thread

#1 by hanako - Jul 17 2008

Since catching all the girls can be tricky, this can be a thread to trade tips on the game, rather than keeping such discussion hidden away in the Secrets zone.

Or not. As you wish. Smile

phoenixgirl

#2 by phoenixgirl - Jul 19 2008

I bought the game yesterday and I must say that so far, it's pretty challenging, which is a good thing. Wink

I was wondering...How can I pass the final exam? I can always pass the midterm but never the final. Thus, I can't get the special endings. Confused
Please help and support me here.

hanako

#3 by hanako - Jul 19 2008

There's two ways:

If you have high smarts (about 70 I think) and low stress, you'll automatically pass the final.

Otherwise, you still have a chance of passing if you are either really lucky as a player or have a good Luck score as a character. You can pass the final without having ever studied if you've got luck on your side.

In either case, you want low stress, so it's important to make sure you rest before the exam. Similarly, you need to manage your stress through the whole game so that you don't Fail in class too much.

phoenixgirl

#4 by phoenixgirl - Jul 19 2008

Thanks. I'm able to pass the final exam now without a problem. Smile

I was wondering if there are any special hints for getting the Rachel ending. Rachel is the red-head, I think. I always get the message that if the guy was really cool. It makes me wonder how high of a cool level I need in order for him to help Rachel at that game.
Please help and support me here.

tanya

#5 by Naiomi666 - Jul 19 2008

i found Tanya's ending to be the easiest so far. All you have to do is have enough strength then you go on a date and take her to a sports bar, but can you have a second date with her?

Also how would i have enough coolness so be with Rachel. i can never seem to have enough coolness when i meet her when i go partying. Should i go partying every night until i see her or should i buy items that make me cool.

hanako

#6 by hanako - Jul 19 2008

The first party-meeting with Rachel is just a hint that you need Cool to catch her - if you have enough Cool you'll meet her another time when you're partying after that.

You can do it either by items or by partying a lot.

phoenixgirl

#7 by phoenixgirl - Jul 20 2008

Thanks, hanako. I'm still trying to get the Rachel ending but I'll do my best. Smile

Just a couple of other questions.

Any special tips on getting the Emma ending? I figured that Mario would be involved in it but it sounds complicated getting her. Confused

And I noticed that there are 6 special endings but there are only 5 girls that the player can be paired up with. So does that mean that if we get the 5 girls, the sixth one is automatically unlocked?
Please help and support me here.

hanako

#8 by hanako - Jul 20 2008

One's a bonus picture that will automatically unlock at a certain point, yes. (Five doesn't really fit neatly into a gallery)

As for Emma, you're on the right track, it does have to do with Mario...

phoenixgirl

#9 by phoenixgirl - Jul 21 2008

Thanks. I shall try again. This game is challenging so far, which I like. Smile

And at least I got the Tanya, Midori, and Jenny endings. Wink

phoenixgirl

#10 by phoenixgirl - Jul 22 2008

Sorry for the double posting here but I'm kind of desperate. Shocked

I've been really trying to get the Rachel ending. My strategy involves a lot of partying. However, if I do enough partying, my character doesn't have enough smarts or luck to pass the final exam. It's like I can get one or the other but not both.

Anyway, any strategies or recommendations on how to get the Rachel ending? I'd really appreciate it. Smile
Please help and support me here.

hanako

#11 by hanako - Jul 22 2008

Get the two Cool 'bonuses' from the cookout and Emmanuel.

Don't bother buying the clothing she likes on the first mall trip, those points aren't necessary and it uses up your time to get the money for it. If you're doing the partying path for Rachel you only need to work once to get the money for the real date.

Pass the midterm. If you fail it, you'll have trouble catching up in time while still being cool.

It may be wiser to try and get the date with Rachel to occur on the very last day of the game, so that you don't lose sleep the weekend before the final. Also, that way you can use the last Friday to Work for the money and not lose time in your studies.

phoenixgirl

#12 by phoenixgirl - Jul 23 2008

Thanks. I finally got the Rachel ending. I'll admit that it did take me quite a while. Smile

Now on to Emma...She's the last one. I'll write the next things in white text so as not to spoil it for others.

I think that to get the Emma ending, the character and Mario would have to go on a double date with her? I got where the coach wants to recruit the character for a sports team but he recommends Mario. But I'm never able to tell Mario for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please help and support me here.

hanako

#13 by hanako - Jul 23 2008

Mmm... I think you need to spend more time in your room after you talk to the coach, but I can't remember exactly when. Try setting it up so that you do Videogames the day after you have that conversation with the coach? I really don't remember exactly when you can pass on that information, but it's either going to be an evening or a weekend when you stay in your room.

eiriene

#14 by eiriene - Jul 24 2008

Ok, so I somehow managed to get the very last ending, where Emma, Mario and I all end up together. But I'm assuming that there's another Emma ending (that would go between Tanya and the threesome ending) in the gallery. Except I have no idea how to get it. =(

Any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to go on a date with Mario on Weekend #4, but I don't know how to get invited along. Or maybe there's something that I'm totally missing, but whatever it is, I can only get the "date" with Emma at the movie theater in the last week.

phoenixgirl

#15 by phoenixgirl - Jul 25 2008

Thanks. I got the Emma ending. Smile

@eiriene:

Let's see...I got that ending but you don't need to get Emma to get that one. All you need to do is get the endings for the other ladies: Rachel, Midori, Jenny, and Tanya. If you're missing any of them, you should get them. Smile
Please help and support me here.

eiriene

#16 by eiriene - Jul 26 2008

I'm still having trouble with the Rachel ending. I can get the date, but then I don't pass the exam. Or I pass the exam, and I can't get the date. Gah.

phoenixgirl

#17 by phoenixgirl - Jul 26 2008

@eirene:

I think hanako mentioned some help to get the Rachel ending but you should try to get the weekend where you hang out with Emmanuel and get some cool points and also the weekend where you go to the barbeque (you'll get more cool points there).

For scheduling your week, I would try to do the first half with sports and the second half with partying and rest in the middle of the week. The sports will help you raise both cool and luck (to help pass the final exam) and partying will raise cool, which is what you need to get that date. Smile
Please help and support me here.

eiriene

#18 by eiriene - Jul 27 2008

@phoenixgirl:

I'm going to go and try that strategy right now!

I was working once and then doing video games and partying. But the sports might be the very key. =)

eiriene

#19 by eiriene - Jul 27 2008

Phew, got the Rachel ending!

I wish the game had been just a tiny bit longer. =)

phoenixgirl

#20 by phoenixgirl - Jul 27 2008

Hi eirene,

I'm glad that you got the Rachel ending. I did the same thing as you before I figured out that sports was the key. Smile

And yup, I agree about wanting the game to be longer. I did enjoy it, though, and can't wait for the sequel. Very Happy

For Rachel for Ice Cream Truck, let her order, but if not, what flavor?

phoenixgirl

#22 by phoenixgirl - Jul 28 2008

@kauthor:

I went ahead and let her order what flavor she wanted. Smile

But I think what might help is if you went on that mall date with Rachel on the first weekend. She reveals there what she likes.

Well, I got all 6 pictures, but I am not sure about the Emma ending.

phoenixgirl

#24 by phoenixgirl - Jul 29 2008

Since you got all 6 pictures, you definitely got the Emma ending. It's the bottom right one.

Spoiler:

Emma is sitting with the main character and Mario on the couch.

:O Boo, I'm having trouble with the Jenny ending. Does anyone know what stats should be high to get Jenny?

kauthor

#26 by kauthor - Jul 29 2008

Execrise and Study.

kaechan

#27 by kaechan - Aug 8 2008

Same here I am having mega trouble with the Jenny ending...

phoenixgirl

#28 by phoenixgirl - Aug 9 2008

To get the Jenny ending, I remember that I had to have studied a lot and paid attention in class. It helps to sit up front in class and then talk to Jenny lots. Also, during the first weekend, you should choose to go outside. You'll see her then. And Jenny likes strong men so lots of exercise and sports will help with that. Wink

Finally, when you have the date with Jenny, make sure you have some money on hand. Smile
Please help and support me here.

kaechan

#29 by kaechan - Aug 9 2008

o-o I can't even get close to the Rachel ending if I tried and tried...I always fail both exams...This sorta makes me mad. If the game was just a little bit longer!!!

What about the other endings...I got the Midori, Jenny, and the running girl ending...besides Rachel what ending is there?

phoenixgirl

#30 by phoenixgirl - Aug 10 2008

Hi kaechan,

You may want to read some of the previous posts in this thread regarding the Rachel ending. I admit that this one took me quite some time to get but I was eventually able to get it. Smile

The other girl that you're missing is Emma. Smile And there are only 5 girls you can get in the game although there are 6 different panel endings.

kaechan

#31 by kaechan - Aug 12 2008

Any tips on the Emma and Mario one?

phoenixgirl

#32 by phoenixgirl - Aug 13 2008

Let's see...I remember that I had to have the main character stay in the room a lot, like playing video games or sleeping. Also, you should become friends with Mario so if you do things like stay in the room the first weekend, etc., then that's possible. Then you'll eventually meet Emma and she'll want to go on a date with the main character (without Mario-that's ok). Pick choices that'll appear to her and of course, pass the final exam and then you should get the Emma and Mario ending.
Please help and support me here.

joannesweeny

Really having trouble with the Jenny ending. I exercise and study a lot and work a bit for cash but she still says no the last week. I saw her that first weekend but feel like I'm missing another encounter...

phoenixgirl

#34 by phoenixgirl - Aug 14 2008

Hmm, let's see. The Jenny ending is pretty difficult to get. If you do meet her that first weekend and accept her challenge to play volleyball and get a good shot, that'll help. Plenty of exercise will help with that.

If you do get to the point where Jenny wants help moving books and she asks you (rather than Midori), then you're on the right track.

Ahh I remember now. Perhaps at some point you should try to follow the track on getting Midori (there's a scene in the computer room). Then when you go into the classroom the next day and choose to go right in, there's an option that'll raise the likeness factor with Jenny (something about chemistry, I think). That should probably help in getting her. Smile

phoenixgirl

#38 by phoenixgirl - Aug 16 2008

I think you're talking about the ending that's in the bottom middle panel. Well, you need to get the Rachel, Midori, Jenny, and Tanya endings to get that one. It's a special panel. Wink

I did make a couple of posts in this thread earlier on how to get the Rachel ending. Basically, though, you need a lot of cool. What I did was do sports for Mondays and Tuesdays, rest on Wednesdays, and then party on Thursdays and Fridays. Also, it helps if you go to the cookout on that one weekend and on another weekend go to Emmanuel's apartment. Eventually, you should be able to get Rachel. Smile

Baconator

#39 by Baconator - Aug 16 2008

I find it interesting that people are having trouble with the Jenny ending - I actually found that one to be the easiest.

Obligatory spoiler:
You just need to make sure you're exercising 2 or 3 times before the first weekend, then go outside and play her at volleyball. At that point, you don't even have to exercise again; just make sure you work twice along the way to pick up the cash.

... I think I'm the only guy posting on this forum...
Mmmm. Bacon.

When does that happen? If that happens on the very last day, then you may not be able to get on the date with Rachel. However, if you're able to get that event in the last week but early on, then Rachel will approach you about the date. Wink

I got her to ask me out on a date ONE time but I lost because I didn't have any money...So I tried my same plan doing sports and partying...but one day for cash so I could afford that darn ice cream...but I seem to have never gotten her to ask me out again...

Mons,Tues I sport...Weds I rest....Thurs and Fri I party/

phoenixgirl

#43 by phoenixgirl - Aug 18 2008

Hmm, strange. The strategy I outlined should have worked. You do need a little cash on the date but you only need $2 so one day of working should be enough.

Hanako mentioned about the date to the mall on the first weekend. You should ask Rachel out but you don't need to buy the shirt for her.

Loop Glitch?

#44 by Gallagon - Aug 18 2008

I don't need any help, but I did come cross a screwy glitch in the game,

I was going for Tanya's ending, I'm on the last saturday of the game (July 17th) and I have the date with Tanya, then on the next day, last sunday (July 18th) I get the message about how the session is over and there's no more work to do so wait for the results of the exam, and yay I passed! I got Tanya letter and ending photo, credits post then I go back to my dorm room and the game make me start another week. Shocked so I was doing a pointless week, then on that saturday (July 24th now) gives me the basic dorm options: "check status" "go shopping" "sleep in" then day: I got the same "last sunday of the game" message: wait for the mail for exam results and get the same letter from Tanya, ending picture, credits post....starts another week...and it just keeps going. Rolling Eyes but anyways I thought I'd share that rather odd glitch, but just for kicks I tried to max out all of the main my stats, (since I had no time limit) and it finally took me to the main title screen after like tayna's 4th letter and on July 46th. XD

Lira

#45 by Lira - Aug 30 2008

Hello!
I just can't seem to get the Rachel ending - no matter how often I party and do sports... *sighs*
Any other hints you could give me?

phoenixgirl

#46 by phoenixgirl - Aug 30 2008

@Lira:

The main way to get the Rachel ending is to have lots of cool. So the partying and sports (not exercise) will help out with that.

Also, what I did was ask Rachel out on the date on the first Friday. On the date, it's not required to buy the shirt for Rachel but I ended up doing that. In addition, at some point, when you're partying, you'll run into Emmanuel. Accept his offer to see his loft.

When you're partying, once you get the event triggered where you help the girl, then Rachel will want to go out with you after one of the classes is over (assuming that it's not the last day when it happens).

I'm having a lot of trouble with the tanya ending. I do sports almost all the time and she never appears other then the first time. Also, is there going to be a Summer Session guide?

Lira

#48 by Lira - Sep 6 2008

You need to do exercise to meet Tanya. You only meet her in sports once.

Hi everyone!

Good thing I found this thread. Been beating mysef up trying to get even 1 ending (always ended up either failing the exam, or passing but without a girl). After seeing this thread I realized that everything I learned about earlier dating sims was wrong (I basically was using the approach I used in the classic Tokimeki Memorial dating sim by Konami). Anyway thanks to the tips I found here I got ALL the endings, and in one day too Very Happy

I also came up with my own walkthrough:

1. Rachel

5th Week:
If you haven't bumped into Midori yet, Work until she appears, then Study
Otherwise, Study
Rest on Wednesday

Study on all days except Thurdsay (rest on this day)

Dialogues/Activities
1st Week:
Sit in Front
Talk to Jenny
Ask about Lecture
Go Outside
Play Volleyball

3rd Week
Argue with Jenny

4th or 5th Week (depending on when Midori appears)
Make fun of Karl

5th Week

Flirt with Jenny

6th Week

The only item I bought when shopping is the Rune Necklace (adds luck)

How can I get a real date with Emma? The further I get is going to the movies with her. What is the last pic in the gallery anyway? It's Emma I bet.

@Sailor Enlil, you said to choose Arty/Foreign movies, but in fact Action movies improves more your relantioship with Emma.

The last picture is Emma, yes. If you're getting as far as the movies but nothing past that, you need to improve your friendship with Mario.

Rechecked the game. Just don't pick Romantic Comedy. Action Movie is preferred.

Like Hanako said, it helps to improve your friendship with Mario - though the only significant event is after the 1st week - Stay In and choose "Ask about his hobbies"

There aren't too many "dating sims" (where you have schedules and raise stats and such) that are full games, available in english, and non-porny. There are a handful of porny ones, mostly out of print. There are a handful of flash-based browser games which you can find on places like Newgrounds. But they're usually not very good, just full of badly-spelled swearing, drug use, and pictures cut-and-pasted from various sources. And some of them may be porn as well, I'm not really sure.

I know of several other english dating sims which are in production or scheduled to be made, but they're not out yet. Stick around on the forums and you'll hear about them when they're finished though. Or browse through the existing threads to see what's already out.

College Romance is a "visual novel" (read and make choices like a choose-your-own-adventure, but no schedules or stat-building). So is Bionic Heart which is intended to be out by the end of the month, and also has voice acting. (Heileen is also a visual novel, but you play a girl in it. You also play a girl in Fatal Hearts, and that one has minigame-puzzles as well.) These are all downloads with demos.

Thank you very much, I'll surely stick around Smile
I tried College Romance demo, but this game is not as challenging as Summer Session, but it has cool graphics though.

jakadak:

Thank you guys, your tips helped a lot Wink I have all the pics now Smile

Do you know more of these such date sim games? I was reading something about College Romance, looks cool as well.
None that I know of in English. In fact the only other dating sim with similar gameplay to Summer Session I have played is Konami's Tokimeki Memorial, and that's in Japanese. Otherwise most "dating sim" games I've played are in fact Visual Novels, a lot of them being of adult nature (in fact I recently started playing one titled Princess Lover!, which was also recently released as an anime TV series).
Summer Session Walkthrough
Hi everyone!

Good thing I found this thread. Been beating mysef up trying to get even 1 ending (always ended up either failing the exam, or passing but without a girl). After seeing this thread I realized that everything I learned about earlier dating sims was wrong (I basically was using the approach I used in the classic Tokimeki Memorial dating sim by Konami). Anyway thanks to the tips I found here I got ALL the endings, and in one day too :D
quote]

I tried both of these posted schedules. But, how can you pass the game with less time for studying?

Me neither.
I have followed Sailor Enlil's guide step by step (although the weeks are wrong, the first date with Rachel is on the Saturday of the first week, the cookout is on the second and the meeting with Emmanuel on the third) but I didn't get to date Rachel a second time.
My "Cool" stats were at 32 or so and I managed to do every action successfully.

[edit]
Okay, I did it a little bit different.
I worked the first weeks until I had enough money to be the 200$ shoes - I needed to work three or four weeks for that. Always with rest somewhere in the middle, wednesday or thursday. In the fifth week I partied and bumped twice into Rachel, in the last week I studied and Rachel finally asked me out.
Now I still need the Emma ending although I have absolutely no idea how to get that.

[edit]
'kay, got that.

Thanks for everyone's help!

yeah did the same.

In fact I say rachel's was the easier one that others, though tanya's was easiest!!

work for 200$. It is done in 4 weeks without any compromise in mid sem exam score!! How ever I partied twice immediately in fifth week , rest on wednesday and all other days for study. Dated with rachel on sat, but needed rest in the next week to get ready for final!

This is easier than the emanuel thing, I suppose! When I tried it, It got difficult for me to pass the exam!
