Editable games?

I've recently found myself addicted to Charm School again, but it's a bit sad how old it is, because it's great but full of flaws and limitations, specially compared to Cute Knight (Deluxe and Kingdom), and its visuals and music definitively aren't as pretty as the newer games either.

So I wonder, if Hanako doesn't plans to make a Deluxe version of this game (or Summer Schoolgirls, or Sweet Dreams...), wouldn't it be awesome if she released an editable version of them, or at least some parts so we could make fan sequels, fan remakes, or just learn to make cute games with those concepts?

Sweet Dreams actually *was* released as an editable many years ago, although I'm not sure if it's still around anywhere. I have no objection to giving out the source code for those games, but they wouldn't be very useful in general for two reasons - one being that since I didn't write them with the intention of giving them away, the code is not very clearly written. The bigger problem is that they're written with highly outdated versions of GameMaker that it's *not possible* to buy anymore. If you tried to find the correct engine you'd only get the shareware demo, so there would be features missing, and if you tried to load them into the modern versions, they'll be packed with errors because a lot of commands have changed in the intervening years.

It would be easy for me to release tools that would allow people to edit the dialog files for Summer Schoolgirls, so you could have them say different things, but the graphics wouldn't be changeable that way.

I agree with you Ayanni. I'm now addicted to Charm School. I really love this game. Your suggestion on editing the game is really a very nice idea. I'm with you.
