Is Charm School still up for sale? :/

#1 by Wabbit - Jul 16 2011

Hey there. ^^

I was debating whether or not to buy Charm School, since I heard it's similar to Cute Knight/Cute Knight Kingdom. Well, I decided to try out the demo, but I can't find it on the main page anymore.

I looked around and found this page, but it says the game is vintage now and that it's currently not available. Does that mean it'll never be there anymore? Or is it some maintenance issue?
I'm aware there's the golden value pack with all the old games for the price of one, but I can't seem to find it anymore, even though I can clearly remembering it being here before. There's Golden Value Pack thread concerning it, but I can't find the offer on the more games page either.

Can I please have some help on this matter? :S
Thanks in advance. (:

I pulled them because they're old and ugly and not compatible with all systems. I may make the value pack available again at some point, but I mostly want to divert attention away from those. Smile

Aww . . . T~T

But they're not ugly at all. o.o While they're not graphically as up-to-date as your newer games, the art isn't horrible. They've got a vintage look, that's true, but it shows all the effort put into them. ^^ And, I like them. owo
You're being a little to hard on yourself there. :P Anyways, since I can't do a thing concerning it, I might as well look forward to the day they'll be back up for sale. ;D

What I've been debating is whether to update them and put them on sale again in a bundle, or to just make them free as they are.

By updating them, do you mean making them fully compatible on Windows/Mac, or remaking them? I'd go with it if it's either one of them. ^^ I don't know what you have in mind though.
I'm not so sure about making them free if I view it from a producer's point of view. I'm sure others would like it, me included; but personally, I wouldn't mind buying the game since it's worth the money. ;)

Oh, come on, the older games are great, especially Charm School and Summer Schoolgirls. Charm School has a really charming (eh, no pun intended) old-time feel to it, and Summer Schoolgirls has well-developed characters and a simple yet engaging storyline. I also love playing a round of Classroom Chaos every so often - as a teacher myself, it's a game I can identify with.

I agree. I always loved Charm School and I still play it every once in a while because it's adorable and I want to see if I can find a new ending for one of the girls. Who were all awesome.

So is Magical Diary the spiritual successor to Charm School? And if so does that mean one of the Charm School girls or other side characters might make a cameo/get mentioned in the Magical Diary universe?

Yeah, I was wondering about that as well. C:

They're not in the same universe. Which doesn't say that a character similar to one of those characters won't ever show up, but no direct connection.

It'd be interesting if that happens. owo

At the moment, there's a version of Game Maker in the works that will export games to HTML5 (thus web-playable).

I am thinking it might be sensible to bring back some of these old games as free webgames, although obviously it will depend on how the code works out, since I don't actually have the HTML5 code to play with yet. That way these old games will be available to people who never got a chance to try them, but the original customers still have something special, since the downloadable versions won't be available anymore.

We'll see.

I can't wait! It would be awesome to play some older games that unfortunately I didn't have a chance before

I kinda miss the older games. I played them back in the day but now that since they're not available anymore there's no way for me to play them! I think I only ever got to play the demo versions of one or two older games
( I am pretty sure that I never got to play a full version of Charm School )

It would be really cool to see them back in a value pack purchase deal or something akin to how they brought back the older monkey island games while having an updated and "improved" version along with the choice of playing the game as it was meant to be played ( in other words the original version..you can switch from the original / older graphics and style of gameplay to the new one whenever you wanted during your playthrough )

updating via compatibility _and_ remake maybe would be best but there maybe somebody / people who might disagree *shrug*

I've been replaying Summer Schoolgirls and remembering how much I love it. It's such a nice, simple game that takes me back to my own college days.

I really hope it comes back someday. I'd love to review it in my blog, but it's probably not fair to review something that's currently unavailable.
