the jars are in mililitres so you have to figure out how much that is in american cups.

How do you get 400? There's only 300 and 800?

Ok, the following is a quote taken from the Fatal Hearts Strategy Guide on how to complete this puzzle:

First, you need to convert cups to mL. 1 cup is about 236.5 mL. 1 and 2/3 cups is about 400 mL. Now, how do you get that from 300 and 800 mL containers?

Fill container A, then pour it into container B, so that container B contains 300 mL. Do this again and container B contains 600 mL. Do it a third time, and container B contains 800 mL, but container A contains 100 mL. Pour the 100 mL into the bowl. Then fill container A again (300 mL) and pour that into the bowl. Now you have 400.
