First Run Log

Hello! I was thrilled when I saw this game was out, and bought it immediately. Loved Long Live The Queen, and I expect I'll love this one, too.

Something I do with some games is maintain a running commentary on my first playthrough. When I've already played a game I sometimes seeing the experiences of new players, and maybe the developer will find my feedback useful. At any rate, I enjoy doing this, and it also helps me to keep my playthrough straight.

Needless to say, I won't be avoiding posting spoilers, though I would prefer to avoid *reading* spoilers, so... yeah.

So far I'm four days in, so I'm a little late getting started, but not that late. As I recall, thus far my decisions have been as follows:

1. I chose the bird, because it is cool.
2. When given the choice to wait on confirmation of my father's death or to immediately assume the throne, I assumed the throne. I was thinking of a similar situation in Girl Genius Online, where Klaus von Wulfenbach was missing presumed dead, and his son Gilgamesh was reluctant to assume his father's title immediately. However, his chief minister informed him that he had standing orders (from Klaus) that his son should assume the throne immediately, to avoid any problems a lengthy interregnum might cause. So that was my thinking here: take the reins immediately to avoid things spiraling out of control with nobody really in charge, and worry about abdicating back to my father later if he turns up still alive and wanting his job back.
3. That said, I did not demand that my father's shadow immediately perform the ceremony. Father might be still alive, and there's no reason to force this man to kill himself just because his boss is missing. And when he went missing, I operated under the assumption that he left to look for him. One more person trying to find him, so I told my guys to keep quiet about it.
4. For my first few turns (before getting control of the ship), I just randomly spoke to whoever was around (played with the bird once, just to check it out) and practiced whatever skill my current mood gave me a bonus to. As of turn 5, I have Etiquette 30, Unarmed 30, Tumbling 15, Reflexes 15, Hunting 10, Piloting 30, and Repair 10. Thus far, I've only succeeded at one skill check, when I reached Myrkka 1, to understand the basics of everybody coming to greet me when I arrived.

This brings us to the last turn I played. I had a quiet visit with my two friends and studied piloting (my mood was Bold). Then I spent my social turn investigating the backgrounds of the local voters. I find myself wondering about time pressure, but my current priority isn't so much votes, as council members. I need knowledge. But until my skills get high enough, I'll have to pick off vibes, and that means investigating. So I'll be remaining at Myrkka 1 for a bit.
