Testing and bugs

#1 by Franka - Jul 29 2025

It's a privilege to once again play a Hanako game. I'll be doing extensive testing (as time permits) to see if I can't find some extremes out there. So far, I've spent 5 hours on the first 4 turns. Very Happy

My first bug report comes when charming Vahter:

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

Typo, "While he might have been looking forward"

Well, this was certainly not as hard as LLtQ. Success on first attempt (many reloads to map stuff though).

If you've gotten past the election and seen what happens before the epilogue, now you can start trying to solve the REAL plot... Very Happy

(Just pushed an itch patch which addresses SOME of the bugs from this thread but not the most recent ones.)

Re: Testing and bugs

Question: Does everyone have a personal quest? Some electors love me so darn much I can't tank their approval enough to check. i should probably stop power gaming and play Failed Empress instead.

Seond game completed. Just a typo to report on this pass. "enough that you can you still"

Still working to uncover the larger plot. Made some progress, but failed at crucial points. The regular game is borked though, poor Lukomir doesn't stand a chance against the Etiquette/Allure/Menace power build. This wasn't even a real atempt to trounce him...

Does everyone have a personal quest?
Not quite everyone. Ixil, for instance, has no quest. Rejt does have a quest but it's tricky to unlock.

But yeah most characters do, even those who start with very high approval scores.

Spent the day mapping elector actions. This is going to take a few days, just one bug found during drinking contest.

Ixil doesn't have a personal quest... right?

Re: Testing and bugs

#11 by Franka - Aug 3 2025

Teesting is still ongoing. Mapping personal quests takes a while though. I had to give up on the blood match, I think you went a bit overboard on that one. Read the fine print or not, poison type 1 or 2 or none, needle spotted or not, suspicions, special kind of suspicions or not, tons of skill checks and choices... I had to give up on mapping all the poison paths for now, just noted the special case path. And after all that, there was also an obstacle course path to plot...

One thing I was thinking about, and forgive me if this is already there, I haven't tested it, I'm not sure if there are any consequences to repeatedly juicing for physical tests. If not, that might be something to add, what with all the warnings.

A thing that would be very helpful is a reminder of where the Grib colony is, once the trouble starts. I wanted to post the fleet nearby, but I could not for the life of me remember where the colony was. It's probably already too late once you're told about the issue, since it takes time for the fleet to move, but I had to go all the way back to turn 13 to figure out where the colony was, or wait for the event to fail to be reminded.

Anyway, today is board game day, so a break from testing.

Just a sort of funky observation: It's cool to be able to send the fleet anywehere, but you can't recall it (weird), and you still get the Military learning bonus and use the admiral's skill, even when they're on the opposite side of the Empire. Video calls?

Re: Testing and bugs

It would make sense to be able to recall the fleet whenever but I"m not sure how to manage that interface-wise. There was a time when Spiky kept Yakau's card on the palace screen so you could talk to him wherever he was but that got confusing. I don't want to have to mix up a whole new interface just for the uncommon situation of wanting to move the fleet again.

Re: Testing and bugs

#15 by Franka - Aug 6 2025

Right. I've finished mapping all personal quests, proposals and negotiations that I was able to find and trigger (I hate you, Tulitust, why do you love me so much?).

I believe I've found 10 different death types.

I've gotten every elector to vote for me (not all at once of course), except Lukomir.

In the process, I went through the "secret" main plot, since I identified some of the triggers along the way.

Now, I obviosuly haven't found everything that can happen in the game, there are still turn events that I know I haven't seen, and I haven't followed all choices through to the epilogue (like every engagement or capturing a certain someone).

If I've missed anyone, feel free to let me know.

Personal quest: Ethexae, Zolot, Krovos, Milan, Vahter, Mirelle, Tulitust, Erilotti, Lorkas, Sola, Oberod, Rejt, Ozara, Stoyan, Sinniparrt, One Bite, Three Rocks Nestled, Chapadoc, Robe of Ice and Starlight Needle, Yakau, Jade, Radomil, Grojdana
No personal quest: Ixil, Muistis, Erilotti, Oletko, Khdarr, Branekka (but there's the Milan thing), Rippling Eternity, Eve

Re: Testing and bugs

There is a personal quest for Eve but it's only available under specific circumstances because she'll try to push for an engagement first.

And like Branekka, Rippling Eternity does want something, it just doesn't come in 'quest' format.

I shall investigate the first one, I believe I do have the second covered. Thanks!

Re: Testing and bugs

Things seem to be wrong with Eve's negotiation. First, if you don't investigate her background, you can propose once and negotiate any number of times, and you're surprised she has a son every single time. Second, if you don't accept the engagement, you can repeat negotiating and talking to the son any number of times (until her approval goes too low or the game ends). Looks like it must be an issue with the variable for breaking the son's engagement, since things seem to work out as they should if you get engaged to Eve, then manually break the engagement.
