Guestbook - Say hello (briefly)

#1 by hanako - Dec 11 2016

Trying something new to wrestle with the bots a bit.

At the moment, newly registered accounts can only read the forums, not post in most of them. To get moved out of that category and into full access, you need to either contact me and ask about your account, or post something here that sounds sufficiently like a human wrote it. Smile No need to tell us your darkest secrets.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I'm trying to find a good way of dealing with the problem.

yep Smile

And hopefully that worked and you should be able to post properly in all forums now, but I am still figuring this thing out (some of these commands do not do what the labels say they should do!)

ambersmite:

Hi! Sorry you've had to deal with such botspam.

I'm typically not very community-interactive, but I'm having a problem with skip functionality in one of the games and am tearing my hair out trying to figure it out. So, here I am at the source!
Hello! You should be able to post in the right game area now, I hope. Smile

(If it's in the Royal Trap, there are some section of text that are repeated or almost-repeated in different routes that count as separate text because of their locations, and therefore Skip won't work as expected in a few places. If it's something else, though, ask away.)

Hey guys! I've been following Hanako Games for quite a while. The first game I played was Long Live The Queen, honestly it was like an upgraded version of "dumb ways to die" lmao, however I got really hooked with it and start looking up more games since.
Aaand I'm one of those who's looking forward to Wolf Hall. The art and interface have changed so much though.

Not sure what subscription link you mean actually, but that game is ancient and tiny and might not even run anymore anyway. Not sure I even have a copy.

The original comp release has a listing on an IF database at least - http://ifdb.tads.org/viewgame?id=gdsdsced60ci885x - but I wouldn't exactly recommend it.

ClothStatue:

Hi there~ I'm ClothStatue, I like yuri cosplay and video games and I really loved Long Live the Queen and just a few days ago got my hands on Little Lily Princess and adored it~ I was hoping to find out if there was somewhere to get the ED for the game "Just say Love" which is what brought me here >u> Good to meet you all <3
Hello!

I tend to license pre-existing music for games when possible, as this makes it easier to pick out a good range of tracks that fit my needs for scene moods. Which means that my game music usually comes from sites which sell licenses aimed at developers, not consumers, and the costs for each song can be as much as a couple hundred. Not exactly what you want for an MP3! In some cases the songs are also sold on CDs for consumers, but it's rare.

There's a freely embedded version of the song on the composers reverbnation profile - https://www.reverbnation.com/robjohnsonsongs - and since he is aiming to sell music to DEVELOPERS, you might be able to contact him about getting a downloadable version for personal use?

Metaparadox:

Hi! I'm Olivia and I signed up for the forums because I bought England Exchange on Itch and it said it would come with a Steam key, but there is no Steam key on the download page. Also, I love Magical Diary and it's what got me into visual novels!
Hm, the itch thing says there are plenty of keys still available and I know other people have claimed them for that game.

It's hard for me to see exactly what it looks like on the player side, though.

Searching for people with similar problems I find one a long time back for a different game where the 'claim key' button just randomly didn't appear on someone's purchase and the eventual suggestion was to ask itch support. If you JUST bought it, it's possible it's a temporary glitch?

I can add more keys, but there should still be plenty left, and if they were all used up it ought to give you a different message rather than just not showing the claim key option.

Sorry, I've only been doing sales on Itch very recently so I'm still a bit new at how it works Smile

I saw the post on itch io saying I gotta post here, so did so. Very Happy
Hello! Your posting permissions should be up now. Smile

We generally prefer that people hold off on streaming Wolf Hall until it's done, since a lot of content isn't complete yet (some routes haven't been started, and eventually you'll run into a "oops no more game" message unexpectedly). Very Happy Writing as fast as I can!

If the game didn't hard crash the best thing to do is the Upload option on the error screen because that sends us the full error message and information about your game, making it much easier to track down what went wrong. (We'll look at it anyway, obviously, it just makes things faster and saves pasting big long things all over the forum)

OmegaAlucard:

Is this where we get a code for itch.io or not given out yet?
If you're a kickstarter backer the itch claim codes will be emailed to your kickstarter address when it's time (about a week from now) and steam keys will be claimable on the itch pages afterwards.

This forum is just for discussion, it has no way of tracking kickstarter accounts.

If you didn't back the kickstarter and want to buy the game you can do that on the itch site directly - https://hanakogames.itch.io/magical-diary-wolf-hall or on Steam when it launches there next week.

Oh, that's been moved around. It used to be that you bought the game but got the strategy guide free on the forums, but now a lot of people get the game PWYW (because it's so old) and get the guide if they make a donation.

xiaohei6751:

Hi Hannako and everyone!
I am a new one come from China.
I purchased and played the game<Long live the queen>, and fall in love with the game, especially with some tables in create a nearly infinite selections. After learning beginer's level of ren'py, I wish to create my own game.
I come here for thanking Hanako for her electronic art, and, I believe there are 2 tables in <Long live the queen>, which are emotion and learning lesson, and this 2 tables have relationship with each other.it is a bit hard for me to write the structure of tables directly in renpy, so I am coming to seek advice on are there any guide of how to insert tables in Renpy and make it change during different options?
Thanks!
Hello!

You'll probably get better answers on coding questions on the lemmasoft forums, as there's more people there and a lot of different approaches to solving problems as well as sample code. I'm not quite sure what you mean by tables. Screens, maybe?

xiaohei6751

Re: Guestbook - Say hello (briefly)

#36 by xiaohei6751 - Feb 26 2021

Yes ,you are right, they are coding problems.I came here mostly for thank your work.
May I know how did you create that 2 table systems? I mean, mood system and lesson system, and use these 2 tables to affect different choices?
Is that you did the coding work? or you only work on designing the script? You are such a brilliant designer!

hanako

Re: Guestbook - Say hello (briefly)

#37 by hanako - Feb 26 2021

It depends on the game. For some games I do the code as well as writing and design, and for some games (like LLTQ) I leave the code to Spiky and just focus on the design side of things.

For coding purposes, they aren't tables really, just lots and lots of variables to be checked whenever anything happens. Some variables are updated based on other variables. I think a lot of them are recalculated at the beginning of the week, like the bonuses based on your current mood and the skill bonuses based on how much skill you have already.

hanako

Re: Guestbook - Say hello (briefly)

#38 by hanako - Jun 4 2021

Short answer: almost certainly not.

Longer answer: there's been a lot of threads about this, though even I have trouble finding them on short notice. The game was never originally designed to do multiple years, though. The magic system isn't set up for it. Half the cast would be immediately removed from play because all the seniors would have graduated and left. All the Damien routes, for example, would be unable to continue, because he can't come back to the school (and sometimes the protagonist can't either, if you got THAT ending). Continuing the Grabiner route would also be really unlikely to work well in the same game as everything else. People writing Grabiner fanfic often want to go off to England with him to meet his family, or to get involved in complicated Otherworld drama, all of which would be really interesting but is so completely different from what would be happening to a normal student that it would be ruled out as part of a general year 2 game.

The original design was to be able to do freshman year in all six halls, learning more about the characters through different perspectives and getting to date different people in each game. It's unlikely that all six will actually happen, but Wolf Hall is out now, and contains a lot of interesting plotlines for someone who's played Horse Hall. Lots of questions about Minnie, Damien, William, Musette, and even Grabiner will get answers, and a bunch of new characters that weren't seen at all or only barely in Horse Hall get their chance for introductions.

There are no current plans for what, if anything, to do after Wolf Hall. Originally it would have been Butterfly after Wolf, but I don't know if that's really the best choice. The most important plotline which still hasn't been shown and was intended for a later game is Raven's, which will answer some HUGE questions about the setting when she finally gets a main route, things that her side route in Wolf Hall didn't even touch on.

We've got a bot signed up to the forums atm that just spends its days futilely trying to post in all the main forums and not noticing it doesn't work Very Happy

They don't often realise they need to come here. When they do, it's either the same spam post (easy to notice), a plain 'Hello' with no more information (which I'll reply to by telling them to try again), or most annoyingly, copying and repasting someone else's post from earlier in the thread so it looks human. I have a fairly good memory so I usually catch that, though.

Yeah, it took me a moment to realise "hang on, there's probably a forum welcome thread somewhere around that'll explain why I don't have posting privileges". I suspect that the ones that post a spam post here haven't realised and are just trying to post in every subforum they can - the ones that have figured out trying to copy a previous post in the thread are a little disturbing, though. Dratted things are evolving. Mad

I can promise that it works for some people, that the file hasn't been altered in many many years, and that it can't be changed as the software it was written on, I'm not sure I even have access to anymore and certainly don't remember how to use. Laughing

Sorry, no - if there are more Magical Diary games they will feature different protagonists and different windows on the world, letting different characters come into the spotlight. There are still several who've barely gotten to speak so far!

Post-game content (especially following up on specific pairings) is really best left to fanfic. Everyone has their own ideas of who their Wolf Prince is and what his future should be like.

Unfortunately I'm basically not able to do tech support for that game, considering how old it is, how much the MacOS has changed since that release (and not always with backwards compatibility), and that I don't even own a Mac. If you post in the subforum for it, there's a slim chance some other mac user might swing by and have a suggestion.

Are you using the actual mac build, which we mostly hide away and discourage people from trying anymore since it mostly doesn't work, or are you trying the windows/linux versions? Oddly people have had better luck getting those to run on Mac than the original Mac release iirc

Posting on a guestbook thread on an old school forum is such a throwback, lol. Thanks for keeping the forum up, even if fighting the bots has been a headache.

Juat discovered LLTQ a few days ago. I know I am only like over a decade too late to the party. It's a brilliant game, still holds up very well.
Old and stubborn me Very Happy I know almost everyone does discords for games these days but I find their mix of real-time-and-not to be frustrating to moderate from a business perspective, the information difficult to organise from a user-searching-for-stuff perspective, the semi-exclusivity (lack of outside search, beholden to an external company that could shut down) undesirable for the official record, and more importantly I'm on discord all the time for personal communication in my personal identity hat, not my business hat, and don't want to have to try and run TWO discord accounts at the same time.

If keeping up with PHP updates eventually forces me to stop running this there's always the Reddit option but that has many of the same problems. It's slightly more organisable (threading) and visible to outside users via search, but it's under the control of another company which is known to be trying to sell a lot of that data to AIs, and while I *do* have a hanakogames account I log into it only rarely. I'm actually a mod of a fairly busy sub in a very-much-not-my-work-identity hat. Someone did create a hanakogames sub once but it wasn't me and I assume it's dead.

I have been a big fan of Long Live the Queen for some while and am excited there is a sequel. I also tried out Magical Diary: Horse Hall and thought it was interesting but wasn't a fan of some of the dungeon puzzles lol, but I'm mainly here for LLTQ.

I'm here to see what's going on with that sequel set in space and to see if there is like a Discord or IRC community.
Hello! You can see some information about space-LLTQ over on the Patreon but I fully expect to do a public steam page reveal by the end of the year (then KS and beta testing after new years). Of course it's been such a crazy year that expectations are sometimes confounded, but there's quite a lot playable at this point. I'm really just trying to get one major area's UI art in so that I have a proper range of screenshots to display for a page setup.

Hi! Fell in love with Magical Diary: Horse Hall recently and... I really just haven't been on a forum in ages and was really curious about this, basically.
There's not really much happening here anymore sadly (but I refuse to put a community on discord for many many reasons).

Might perk up a bit when the next kickstarter runs!

Kumoi no Kari:

Hello everyone. A member of the fan Chinese localization project for Night Cascades. As a yuri lover I'm quite serious about introducing good english lesbian games and some otome games (there are a lot of them) to Chinese and plan to do this on a regular basis. I have played your games Black Closet and Night Cascades and I like your writings and stylized game design. Besides, there are some technical issues you maybe can help us with regrading the localization project of Night Cascades, I will post else where or discuss this with private messages(It is OK?).
Forum private messages are kind of a pain (the phpbb system insists on having a very limited number of PMs available for some reason). There aren't a lot of topics about Night Cascades at the moment so you could potentially just post questions in that subforum, which would make it easier for both Spiky and I to see them. We may or may not be able to help, though, as we're busy on other projects that are running on slightly different codebases.

I'm Evelyn! I really enjoyed Black Closet and LLTQ, so I backed Zorana as soon as I found out about it and I'm really looking forward to it! Nice to see that Hanako has a forum rather than just a subreddit like a lot of developers do
Hello and welcome! I like forums, it's just a pity that this one runs a little less smoothly than it used to before AI bots started clobbering the internet. They're not even getting anything out of us anymore but they keep trying.

Hello to Everyone!

I'm so excited for the new game Galaxy Princess Zorana. I have actually been a member of this forum since 2012. Now I have kids that love playing all of the games that have been released here by Hanako Games.

And actually I just checked my profile and I've been a member of this forum since 2011. It's amazing that Hanako Games is still producing such fun games. Thank you!

Hiya! Casual fan of Long Live the Queen, just recently played through it for the first time, primarily looking to find a mod mentioned in the steam forums (I don't care if it's done or not working or whatever, I was just curious to see it at all). I'm usually a lurker wherever I go, I don't like bothering people (idc if others bother me though). I've only used a forum once before this, and that was almost ten years ago, so sorry ahead of time if I do anything silly.
Hello and welcome! Sorry for having to navigate all the security. Forums are sadly dying these days partly because bots are absolutely *wrecking* them - we're constantly under attack from AI scrapers, unfortunately.

Backed the Kickstarter, currently trying to figure out how code signing works on macOS so that future Itch releases don't run into the classic macOS code signing issue.
Neither Spiky nor I currently owns a Mac - I have an apple friend who can do basic "does it run?" tests for me (and helped us figure out some issues with the unofficial steam support) but last I looked into it trying to get official approval was way too much trouble. But I don't remember the details at all anymore so who knows.

Hello! Sorry things are a bit slow here these days - we had so much trouble with bots making it run at a snail's pace that most people sadly ended up leaving the forums.

I see that now, it's so sad. I was hoping to pick some very queer and very interesting brains. You are a lovely creative by the by! You, ebihime, and Christine Love make me =)!

I'd love to talk, well about anything. Sometime. If you're interested =P!

*Should be some kinda off-topic. But I guess also everyone is on Discord and they will get me on there pending they completely mind-control me.
