Magical Diary: Irvine's Story

Here are the first two months of the story just to see what you all think of it.When I was 13 I was fighting with my older brother and I ended up setting his hair on fire. Once he put his hair, I ended up in hospital. I was lying in the hospital bed and my parents walked in and I will never forget the look on their faces. They were about to say something and then my parents stopped moving, even the wind blown curtain stopped moving. I kind lady came to me and said I had some kind of a gift. Back then I had no idea what she was going on about but she gave me a choice to either give up my gift or go to a school for people with the same gift. It was a simple decision, I chose to go to the school.
SEPTEMBER
I am sure you are wondering who I am? Well my name is Irvine and I am a students in the wolf hall. This is my first day I walk into the room to find to other boys sitting to two of the three beds. One looks very rugged and was clearly from the country. The other boy looked like he had bat wings, I could honestly say that he made me quite nervous. The two boys get up and introduce themselves, the rugged boy walked up to me and took my forearm and said “So you're my second room-mate, I'm Seth and this guy here is Kain. Don't worry to much about about him he has a bit of a superiority issue.” Kain gives Seth a look of disdain and walks out “I think you offended him Seth” Seth replies “Nah he just doesn't like people like us...the ones he call lesser folk. Oh before I forget we have an assembly tomorrow morning.” Seth walks out leaving me to unpack my bags. That night I have a very restless sleep and I spend most of it starring at the stars.
The sun rises on a new day and Seth and I head down into the assembly. As soon as I walk in I am left speechless by the stranger...creatures that are in the hall. There are people with bat wings, butterfly wings and some people look like they are cross between a person and a cat. Everyone takes their seat and a woman walks up on stage. I recognise her as the one who saw me in the hospital she introduces herself “I am Professor Potsdam and I am a teacher here at Iris Academy” she follows onto information about each hall and class which I pay no attention to due to being very distracted by one of the girls who is half cat. Before I know it Seth is tugging at my arm because the assembly is finished. On the way out I ask Seth about the cat hybrids he replies “Cat Hybrids? Oh them they are called were-creatures. You also have the Sylph, Demons, Born Magical humans and people like you, Wild Seeds.” The look on my face is of pure confusion “Wild Seed?” Seth goes on “A wild seed is someone who has non magical parents. They are rare and the ability usually manifests itself as soon as the person hits their teens.”
The first week of the term and my first class of the week is White Magic. On the way to class I get lost and by the time I get to class its almost over. I pick up what I can but its not much so after class I go to Professor Potsdam, to ask what happened in the class she calls put for Adelaide to come to tell me what was the class was about. I was surprised to see the cat hybrid girl from the assembly. She gives an excellent description of what happened in class. Adelaide leaves and Potsdam turns to me “Since this is your first day I will let you off but be careful if you are late again I will be forced to give you detention.” I nod and run out the door trying to find that girl to thank her, I catch up with her and tell her she seems shocks and hastily walks off. I get back to my room to find Kain sitting at the desk with a very old book he turns his head and sees me, he snaps the book shut and storms out.
During the weekend all the newcomers go to the main hall and the students in their last year are also there they line us up at a Sylph stands in front of us “You are all here for initiation now that you are lined up, one at a time a senior will pick you and look after you for the week.” I stand there as each student is taken out of the line. Seth is picked by the Sylph and taken aside to talk. I am looking at the ground and I see a pair of feet stand in front of me I look up to find a were-creature in front of me her belt tells that she is from the butterfly hall. She takes me aside “Hey I am Ariath and I am your senior for the week. With your first exam coming up at the end of the month, take my advise with this” Adelaide storms up to Ariath “WHY DIDN'T YOU PICK ME SIS?” Ariath pulls Adelaide aside I can't hear what she is saying but it sounds very stern. Adelaide storms out of the hall Ariath turns to me “anyway remember my advise and you will do fine in the exam”
The week goes on without anything unusual, I talk to Adelaide a few times but not to much. One week till the exam I pick up Black magic from what I hear from Professor Potsdam gave me a few ideas of mixing magic to create something a little more than a ring. On the way out of class I run into Seth and I ask him if he has noticed anything unusual about Kain. He turns to me “You noticed something too? I thought it was just me. He seems to keep that book of his close but I have never seen a book like that.” “Yeah, Seth that book is very strange have you seen much of it I have only seen it is passing.” Seth pauses for a few moments “It seems to have a picture of a horned thing on the front but I don't know what it might be.”
The initiation finishes and I feel quite neglected at the end of it so I skip the finishing and instead I went to the library to look up on this book. I enter the library to find Adelaide standing there on her own her belt has the insignia of a snake. I go up to her “Hey it's Adelaide isn't it?” She looks at me almost in tears “yes, yes my name is Adelaide, you are?” I ignore her question “Is anything wrong?” She bursts into tears and mumbles something about her sister being better than her in every way. I put my hand on her shoulder “come sit and lets chat.” An hour passes, then another and another. Kain walks in and goes to the librarian and asks for a book on demonology. I turn back to Adelaide “well?” she asks not knowing that she said giving out a fake yawn “I am sorry but I must really be tired so I think I will have to turn in for the night. Oh and my name is Irvine”
Over the next week I become quite adept at Black magic. I am walking down the hall to the library to find out information about my room-mates book but I am suddenly teleported into a stone room. A deep voice reverberates through out the room “The door is on the other side of the wall in front of you. Good Luck.” I know that I am good at Black, White and Blue magic but not the other two so I try Black magic to reshape the stone but I am unfortunately not powerful enough and the spell fizzles out...however it did cause the wall a little bit of damage. I am teleported out in front of Professor Garbiner, he doesn't look very happy about my work in the dungeon. After a long silence he says good effort now go on get out of here.
OCTOBER
It is a new month and I have set on a new personal assignment to create an object that stores mana so I continue to study black, white and blue magic. On the weekend I go to the library to find any information on Kain's book I go to one of the librarians “Do you know anything on a book that has a picture of creature with horns?” The librarian looks at me very confused “Well I have heard of a book that has something similar of what you describe.” goes out back and signals me to follow so I do. She leads me out into the back of the library. She opens a very large book and scans the pages one by one and then she turned to me eyes wide open. “If this book is correct this book you describe is not of this world. If you ever see this book again bring it to one of your professors and they will send it back to the otherworld.” I am next to speechless with fear I manage to get out a few words “What is so dangerous?” She crouches down to my level “No one really knows it depends on its creator, but you can be sure that it is very dangerous book.” I spend that night wide awake.
Walking through the halls to white magic class I see Seth with one of the girls from the horse hall. I give him a nod on the way past. When I get to class professor Potsdam teaches us many things on other world creatures “The creatures of the other world are very dangerous, even though they may be weakened in our world but they are still deadly. However if they are bound to this world by either someone or something they are just as powerful.” After class I went up to Professor Potsdam “Professor is believe that my room-mate Kain has a book from the other world.” Concern sweeps over her face. She calls for Professor Garbiner to come in then turns to me “Go ahead tell us everything” I precede to tell them everything. After I had told them all I knew Professor Garbiner teleported out and Professor Potsdam and I went to my room to find it empty. Adelaide come to me “what's going on? Why are the professor searching your room?” I turn to her and I explained the situation. She looks at me with pure shock and a little bit of fear. She gives me a hug and that hurries off. Seth walking down the hall saw what just happened. He walks up to me smiling and gives me a pat on the back and keeps on going
The elections are on and Seth comes to me “Are you going to run for President?” I turn to him “No I don't think I will to much pressure on me with all my classes.” Seth laughs “I hear Adelaide is running for treasure” I glare at him. He puts his hand on my shoulder “oh com'n mate you don't think its obvious, you clearly like her and she clearly likes you for some strange reason.” I push his hand off my shoulder “no we are just friends and I am far to busy with other stuff….”
It has taken me a week to collect the knowledge needed for my personal project. I got down an isolated part of the school to conduct it. A vortex spins around me and a light begins to glow in my hands as I cast. Then all of a sudden the light detonates and I am sent flying. I waken in my bed with Professor Garbiner looking over me “WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU DOING OUT THERE! Strike that I don't even want to know, you have detention next Saturday.”
Today was the day of the second exam Seth seemed quite nervous. I turned to him “Why are you so nervous about today's exam?” he looked at me “I am not nervous about the exam I am nervous about Kain and what he has done. Like what if he does something and we could have done something to stop him early on.” I sit down “It doesn't matter now the teachers will sort it out now. Its out of our hands”
After passing my exam I have me detention have been assigned to clean the main hall for the Dark Dance next week. Seth walks in “So I heard you got detention, I never thought you would get there before me. Either way what were you doing?” I look up from my mop “I was trying to complete my personal project, to make something to store mana.” Seth looks and my wide eyed and then just bursts into laughter “You are completely crazy aren't you?” I just look at him and shrug.” Seth leaves the hall and leaves me to my mountain of cleaning.
During the week I bump into Adelaide “Hey ya hope you are going well.” Adelaide looks up at me and then quickly walks on. She leaves me there very confused wondering what happened. Seth walks up to me and pats me on the back “Women. They are very confusing, don't worry about it too much.” My head drops and a deep sadness falls over me. Seth moves around and stands in front of me “Cheer up mate we have the Dark Dance tomorrow and you might be able to talk to her there or just give her some space for a while. Your call mate.” He leaves me to ponder tomorrow and what to do.
The sun rises on a new day unable to find the energy to get up in the mourning I lay in be contemplating what to do tonight. I go the Dark Dance but somehow I get the crazy idea in my head to try and do my project again. I leave the hall and go just on a nearby patch of grass, I begin to cast the spell from the light that is in my hands I see Kain out of the corner of my eye doing something I quickly snap my concentration back to my spell. I see the spell loose stability like last time but then all of a sudden it become stable again and it successfully goes off. I look down to find a crystal formed out of the ground, I pick it up and look through it to see a shape I move the crystal away and the shape isn't there. I go back inside to my room it study the crystal more. I cast a spell to light up the room so I can find the light switch but my spell is just sucked into the crystal.
