Frustration with events in week 33 (Spoilers)

Left the title as ambiguous as I could.

In week 33, you will sometimes be challenged to a duel after the tournament, and every time I'm killed. Now, I know there are ways to avoid him altogether, by not attending for example, but that's not why I'm annoyed.

I take a great effort to max out my magic skill very early on in the game, with the assumption that, well, magic is awesome. But I never get a chance to use any magic in this encounter. Looking at the wiki, it SAYS you're supposed to get an option to kill him with magic before the duel even starts, but I NEVER get it. I've even tried raising her cruelty by executing people and going hunting when I read in an old version that might influence it, but I've still never managed.

.... Most likely, that's because you're playing a pirated copy of the game, which is so many versions older than current that it doesn't have that option added yet.

It is, of course, possible that you have been given an old CD copy and that's why you're very far behind on updates (good grief, do you even have death chibis in a copy that old?), in which case you should use the license key taped inside the case to upgrade to a newer version. There's quite a lot more content.

I hadn't bothered updating it yet. (I bought it way way back, before the steam sale and everyone heard of it) I was trying to figure out if they'd patched in things like that but couldn't figure it out.

Oh well, guess I'll go hunt down that key.

How do you turn on beta updates?? :O I never got that option...

If you're on Steam, that option isn't there, it's handled differently.

Steam is a site to buy games. Recently LLTQ was on sale there. Steam usually (far as I've experienced) automatically updates your games when you log in. (You have to download their desktop app.)
