Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

So, who do you most want your princess to end up with, and why? Could be for romantic or political reasons, could be someone who completely isn't an option in-game... (This is probably going to involve a bit of HeadCanon, since as stated it is NOT a romantic game and there was never any romance. This is mostly for fun for people who want to imagine what relationships with the characters might have been like.)

Morgan_R

#2 by Morgan_R - Jun 29 2012

Honestly, nobody in particular. I've played through a couple times and I still don't feel like I know enough about the prospective candidates to know who would make a good match. That's one thing I would have like to see -- more ways for Elodie to interact with her suitors before she has to decide whether to marry them.

To be honest i liked Adair. I liked how shy and nervous he was dancing with Elodie. I also liked him as my companion. I thought I would have get more scenes with him. I wish there was more.

But...

I would like her to be with Charlotte/Briony/Brin... the lesbian harem option there.^_^

As one might be able to guess from my question on the topic... Charlotte all the way here.

Morgan_R

#8 by Morgan_R - Jul 3 2012

Assuming I can ever get them to run off and have an ill-advised adventure together, I'll probably ship Elodie/Briony. It seems like a more romantic start to a relationship than most. Though the pastry chef sounds kind of adorable.

Is Togami an option?
I know he's married and all, but I really ship him with my bb ;3;

gracatu

#10 by gracatu - Jul 17 2012

I want Togami as well, I found an option where i offered him my hand, but he refused saying that I'm no match for his wife. However i didn't have amazing skills either... therefore, is it possible to make him accept? I only reached that option once, I'm still trying to get it again. Don't really remember the combination..
i think i had no world history? or foreign affairs. i mean not enough. I didn't know anything about him anyway...

hanako

#11 by hanako - Jul 17 2012

The skill fail is for Elodie not realising that he was already married, which she should know if she's studied her history. Smile

The closest to a canon Togami option is if you can get the Evil Minion outcome.

Ramidel

Selene seems like she'd make a good handmaiden for the Queen.

...what do you mean she's already spoken for? I'm the princess, and I want my priestess! (Willful +10) Razz

Why Togami of course! Our evil love shall kill his wife and children, burn the world to ashes and ALL SHALL KNOW OUR FURY Cool

The Earl of Pastries is also cool.

Ramidel

Send Julianna off, then dance with someone scandalous at the ball. It'll be Brin, and that touches off your romance with her. Then, either marry Banion or don't get married at all.

Yeah he's.....endearing. All the crazy he put into his family life he turned into sweet sweet lovin' for Elodie. I doubt anyone would ever kill her for fear he'd hunt them down and murder them something fierce.

I have to admit, I really like the idea of Elodie and Adair, chasing frogs through the courtyard, laughing their heads off while trying to wrap those same heads around the idea that at some point in the future they are supposed to be married.

DensetsuVI:

I found the ending with the pastry noble to be rather cute, especially compared to all of the other, less friendly or outright cruel options available.

Being as Elodie is so adorable though, I feel the need to horde her all to myself! None of them can have her, she's mine I tell you. Mine! **hiss** Laughing
By the way, who is the pastry noble if it's alright to ask? Is it Kevan?

hanako

#21 by hanako - May 18 2013

No, the pastry fellow's name is never mentioned because he doesn't appear in the story at any point. The idea there is that he's technically nobility but extremely unimportant - not in charge of any politically sensitive territory or position, not the immediate family of anyone who's a major plot shaker, just some guy.

I never officially gave him a name or even a duchy of origin.

That is a sweet thought.

And the end-game text sounds pretty good, really, where it says that the relationship with Adair "often seemed to be more one of friends and companions than passionate lovers". How much better could a royal in a place like Nova ever hope to do?

(On a tangential matter, I noticed that the following text stayed the same regardless of my response to the marry-now-or-later question in Week 39: "Years later, when both were adult, Elodie, Queen of Nova, and Adair, Duke of Elath, were married." I presume Lucille's efforts to talk Elodie out of it after I chose "Plan for a wedding this year" were successful then.)

I've always like Adair since it seems every other option the person wanting to marry you has political reasons for doing so, but in Adair's case you are the one to propose to him and that can only be bad if.... well if you make Elodie bad =P.

key_under_pig

Of the two I've tried and liked:
Briony is smart, but headstrong, which is appealing, and she has issues dealing with her family, which is somewhat endearing and relatable. I liked her story - do I help her resolve her issues as a friend, or do I become close to her on a crazy adventure?
Brin is pretty cool. I like how shameless she is about what she wants and I appreciate her taste in (stunningly unsubtle) floral arrangements. Plus the way I helped her with Ixion had interesting, far-reaching consequences.

Talarist. I mean, of course he's a cunning jerk who's probably planning on turning Nova into a puppet state, but can you honestly tell me that a Lumen Elodie with maxed intrigue would even contemplate allowing that to happen? So now you have considerable sway over Sedna and your heirs will inherit a foreign duchy, basically annexing it into Nova. Which is always good.

As for, you know, dumb stupid romance, I really do like the good marriage between Adair and Elodie. It's cute. You ride into the sunset and cuddle.

Kateye

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

In my opinion, we don't really spend enough time with most characters to really get a feel for their personalities. The characters we sort of get to know are Charlotte, Briony, Banion, Kevan, and Evrard. Banion is an entitled jerk, Kevan is a bit sociopathic, Briony is adventurous and capable, Charlotte is kind and caring, and Evrard is calm and a bit flippant.
Given those options, I'd like to spend more time with 'Lottie, but romantically paired with Briony, or Evrard. I like how he's not afraid of Elodie and yet is a good person who doesn't seem all that interested in her power. So maybe he could be the unacknowledged father of her daughter? Hmmmm...

This may sound a little weird, but so far I think my favorite ending was with Anciet. I tried it just for fun and it was surprisingly sweet. Plus it seems like a really great way to snub Banion (to be fair, I haven't tried going for Brin yet).

I also like Elodie and Linley. They seem to make a pretty sweet couple.

I married Talarist on my first go, accepting the necklace and thinking I might be able to make some use out of it. Then I decided to make Brin marry an Ixionite, so.. no. Their epilogue was good though (I was definitely happy with it). My favorite Tlarist ending is if you don't wear the necklace but still chose to marry him in the end. Just don't make him the Duke of Elath, whatever you do. That ending is terrible (hence my ambivalence about Talarist).

I think it would be great if Elodie could force Armand into marriage. Incestuous but great. We don't really get to see much of Armand but I found it funny that like the other nobles, he thinks you're nuts. He's uncomfortable dancing with Elodie at the ball and also not so eager to see you if you had your entire family killed.

The only time the Anciet marriage didn't pan out for me was when I executed both his aunt and uncle. I was trying to ensure he'd inherit a duchy, but I guess it was just disturbing enough for him to be all, "No."

EDIT: Scratch that, I made Brin a commoner. Pretty sure you'll get the same results if you have her killed though.

"Dream" pairing - The squid (this goes somewhere, please hear me out)

I choose to interpret the letter to Elodie about the squid to actually be a marriage proposal from an actual sentient squid, let's say he'd the prince of the squid kingdom or something.
Anyway, many marriages are for political alliances, as this one would be. If you pass some sort of obscure skill check and interpret the letter correctly (swimming + lore + ciphering and retrieving the letter from the roof so you can actually look it over better) you would be allied with the Kraken who would repel the naval invasion for you.

My favorite actual pairing is... eh, I'm not sure. I haven't got all of them.

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

Hey, I just noticed this after playing the game again after several months: after I've had Elodie kill off Brin, then kill the assassin Banion sends after her, and have high enough ciphering skill to determine the assassin came from Maree (though I had Elodie choose to ignore Banion at the ball), I was still able to marry Banion at the end of the game -although Elodie said marrying Banion was probably 'unlikely' due to their previous interactions. The end story even mentions that Banion eagerly accepted her proposal and tried to present himself in the best possible romantic light, and while they did have power play struggles after, it makes no mention of the fact that Elodie had his sister killed and Banion also tried to have her killed in return. While I do believe Banion is power-hungry enough to would want to marry Elodie anyway, I would think their marriage should have more turbulence.

That's magnificent. I ship it.

My personal favorite pairings for Elodie would be with Briony and Talarist (as a mostly healthy and happy political marriage in that one ending and varying degrees of...less so in others). I also like pairing Elodie with Adair (best friend marriage), Evrard, Ignatius, the Earl of Pastries, Sabine (I know, I know ;_;), Linley, and maybe Chaine or Signuel. The nameless foreign duke isn't too bad, either, because I mean sometimes having an amicable relationship where the partners respect each other is really all you can ask for in a royal marriage. I have mixed feelings on Kevan, but a friend has warmed me up to it and it's certainly better than leaving him with family, even if the extent of his devotion to Elodie isn't healthy. I'd probably have Elodie pursue Bennett if he were an option because I like Bennett, but that would mean breaking him up with Lieke and why would I want to do that?

Awwww, now I'm just imagining the poor, heartbroken squid prince, heartlessly turned down by Elodie before they could even properly meet, curled up on the seafloor sobbing into a box of chocolates. His best friend, the Kraken, slowly places one tentacle on his shoulder to comfort him before slowly turning towards Nova, fury in his eyes.

Mir

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

Alas, poor Squid Prince. But then Charlotte is sent down and they meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after, and his friend's happiness is enough to calm the Kraken.

The people of Nova might not have hated Elodie so much if they had known that was what happened to the queen's favorite cousin. :p Or maybe not, since the intention was still to make a blood sacrifice.

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

I came into the game for the f/f options, and Brin/Elodie and Briony/Elodie do not disappoint. I wish they had more endings, but I understand the game isn't focus on romance per se and am very thankful for the developers allowing the chance for a more varied playthrough in their games.

Perhaps my one caveat with Brin is that between her loyalty to Banion and her past affair with Lucille, I'm surprised she didn't have any darker endings, or that those didn't come into play with either Lucille or Banion trying to sabotage their relationship or use Brin as a pawn.

(I guess that's what fic is for! I'll have to write that...)

Mir

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

#47 by Mir - Mar 9 2015

Measured:

Plus, the new content shows he apparently didn't kill Adair in that path,
I don't think he's in the clear, personally.

Actually, hold on. I need to make something clear before I continue. I'm thinking the comments I've made are making it seem like I hate Talarist, when he's actually one of my favorites. This is just one of those weird cases where I talk a lot of smack about about a character I like (the only times I think I've actually been actually disgusted with him in posts here was when I found out some of the dummied-out stuff about him. ...Which, while I think is underhanded and gross compared to what happened with Adair when he and Elodie were in the same situation, I can see why he'd take that route.)

ANYWAY
, I personally do think that Talarist is responsible for Adair's death not because he's some irredeemable monster, but because he's a member of the House of Sedna. If he's denied inheritance of Elath in favor of a Novan he can't marry, he invades and tries to take it for himself. If Elodie publicly jilts him for Banion or Thaddeus, he uses it as justification to try to take Elath by force. He calls Elath his "birthright". If his family's feelings are similar to his, I can completely see them taking whatever steps necessary to obtain the duchy for themselves.

The new content made it explicit that he wasn't responsible for the deaths of Adair's grandmother and aunt, though this could be discerned from the foreign intelligence lessons in the older versions (Talarist is twenty-six, but the deaths of Adair's grandmother and aunt happened twenty years ago. He can't have done anything when he was six). That's why I think it was the Sednan Ducal Family that was behind it - their family would have the biggest grievance against Elath's current Ducal Family, and if Talarist is still upset about it however many generations later, then they seem to be a constant in that family. I could see them having the patience to potentially enact a multi-generational plot to obtain "justice" and finally get their line back on the Elathian Ducal Seat. As the Duke, Talarist would be the head of the family, meaning he'd be responsible for this coming to pass.

On the other hand, there's only been rumors that Sednan spies were responsible for the deaths in Elath's Ducal Family. No one with Sednan connections were tied to the deaths of Adair's grandmother and aunt, and no one was ever actually caught in Adair's death. The pieces seem to fit, but then again there are instances where all the pieces seem to fit but the conclusion they lead to is wrong. Elodie can have reason to think that her uncle is trying to kill her to become king, or that Arisse would harm Adair, or that Julianna is responsible for her mother's death. She's wrong on all counts (Lucille is trying to kill her, Arisse will protect Adair, and Togami is behind her mother's death). I think there was one comment that Hanako made that implied to me that there might be more people than just the Sednan Ducal Family that would want Talarist either on the throne of Nova or as Duke of Elath. I may be completely misinterpreting what she said (and I apologize if I am), but I could see multiple Talassian interests coming together in Talarist having power in Nova. Elath is a rich territory known for its mining operations, so Sednan businesses, perhaps the Talassian crown itself, could benefit from someone with Talassian sympathies able to affect policy in Nova. It's possible someone from those camps could have been responsible for the deaths. It is also possible that they were working with the Sednans to pick off the Elathians for their own interests. We don't know.

The only real evidence we have against Talarist being involved in Adair's death are his own words and Elodie's failure to find any proof against them* (if she's not cruel). However, the only evidence we have for him being involved in Adair's death is a bunch of circumstancial evidence and no solid proof. I don't know if we can say if he did or did not for sure. (I personally think that he either did do it or was aware of it, though, due to the impression I get about his family and because he's competent, cunning, and perceptive enough that I cannot personally see him not being aware of the plans, especially regarding something so important to him. However, it is not impossible, especially if the plots didn't originate in Sedna.)

My two cents.

However, as of the beta content, I gotta hand it, he can potentially be a fantastic King consort for Elodie.
But I agree 100% with this. He was amazing at the gala - skilled, experience, mostly tactful.... And I've never had any reason to doubt the happiness of his and Elodie's marriage and his devotion to his daughters in that one ending. (Even in the other endings, he doesn't appear to be constantly undermining her like Banion does, either. I did get the impression that he was trying to distract Elodie for his own benefit in the new content for their engagement ending, but it's still not quite the constant undermining and worse from most of Banion's solo endings.)

*I personally think that's because any proof would be in Talasse and that he would never bring it up for the sake of protecting his status as king and Talasse's interests.
**I'm getting into wild mass guessing here, but it did strike me a little while ago that he's only three years younger than Adair's mother. Considering his own willingness to marry himself off to advance his interests in Elath, I'm wondering if perhaps his family ever tried pushing him as a marriage prospect for Cayleigh. If he becomes Duke of Elath in his own right, he leaves his position as Duke of Sedna, so someone can take over if he's not in Talasse (his brother?). I'm just saying, if the Sednans were really pushing the idea of a marriage between Cayleigh and Talarist, that might have been another factor in why Cayleigh was married off so young to Fabian.

What's in the dummied-out content that was mentioned earlier?

Also, what I'm curious to know is.... who'd be the most valuable husband?

Would Talarist actually be a good husband or would he be obsessed with undermining Elodie once he becomes king?

Mir

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

#53 by Mir - May 10 2015

GSN22:

What's in the dummied-out content that was mentioned earlier?
It's (or part of it) is in the translation file, in the marriages section.

I've gotten I think maybe all of Talarist's marriage endings, and what kind of husband he is seems to depend on what his and Elodie's circumstances were when they got married. At least that's how I interpret it. The only ending that seemed to me as him being actively undermining her was if they get married after getting engaged in-game without any delays, which kind of comes off like "him trying to distract her from her duties with nice things so he can carve out a place of his own in Nova's nobility." The marriages can turn out poorly for other reasons, but nothing really indicates an ongoing power struggle between the two otherwise. If he and Elodie marry later on while Adair is alive, Elodie can have children, and he's not upset with her about anything, they actually seem happy together. I mean obviously he's out to advance himself, but the constant obvious undermining seems like it's more a Banion-without-Brin thing to me. :p

I guess who would be the most valuable husband really depends on what you want out of your marriage, I guess? For international relations, probably Talarist, his brother (though I don't think Talarist would be an ally of yours, considering the circumstances), or the nameless foreign duke. For connections at home? Probably Thaddeus, Linley, or a successfully-wedded Kevan, due to their family connections (Kiran might work for a little while, but once he learns the truth about his mother's death...). Adair's territory is rich and making him part of the royal family protects him and his line, and he's also connected to the Duchess of Lillah (and the future Duke, Kiran) through his father's marriage, so there you go. Banion is supposed to be powerful and influential, so there's him, but I'd involve Brin somehow unless you both have very similar political goals. Not sure how useful Ignatius is. He's the father of the future Duchess of Mead, but she thinks the marriage is gross and I'm not sure if the current Duchess would be insulted by the queen favoring her ex-husband.

Or do you define valuable as in "less likely to actually be able to mount a threat against you"? A minor earl like the Earl of Pastries might be best, or a respectable someone that's clearly devoted to you/doesn't want to put up a fight might be best.

GSN22

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

I'd probably go with Talarist's brother, it'd allow Elodie to enjoy winning the trade dispute. Smile Besides that, Talarist acts pretty damned sketchy throughout many parts of the game. Talarist might not be so bad if you go for a more delayed romance.

Gamer

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

Hey, shouldn't the epilogue reflect Elodie's fickle nature if she is engaged to Talarist and still danced with Banion at the gala who she will expressly inform of her intentions to use him and drop him later? There didn't seem to actually be any negative consequences for Elodie dancing with another suitor at the gala if she is already engaged (unless she decided to leave him for Banion after.) I also didn't see anything happen if Elodie happened to be engaged to either of these men and still accepted Brin's flowers, or hit on Sabine or offer marriage alliance with the King of Shanjia (though both will reject her regardless).

The way I saw it, there was no indication that Elodie and Banion actually did anything together besides dancing twice. If Elodie says "I'll use you, then dump you," what she's doing is mocking the idea that Banion can damage her honor by announcing that they're having an affair. There's no actual fickleness involved in that.

And Elodie can give a dance to whoever she wants. She may or may not be saying anything by her choice of dancing partner.

I haven't actually gone through victoriously enough times to have a solid opinion on this but I do like Talarist as a character, it's just I want to get through a game and get his "Oh hey I'm not actually a Gold Digger" ending. Other than Talarist-In-Nova and Elodie-In-Sedna, the only other ending I've managed to get is the Duke of Pastry, which that sort of ending is one I love if for no other reason that it implies she rejected every other suitor in the name of actually looking for love. Which I suppose would be a reason for me to try for the f/f endings.
Earl of Thing. Yep, that's definitely Kevan's title.

...Do you mean the ending where he and Elodie raise a happy family together? :p

I would recommend the F/F endings for that. There's also Evrard, though his marriage requirements are rather tricky.

I liked most of them! I'm debating between Talerist (Where you chose him at the end) and Ancient because it was so sweet! But I also like Evrard's character... And Adair's... Banion has a really entertaining ending...
This might take a while.

I think I said this in the other thread, but I generally take Talarist early on as a precaution - I don't like Dead Elodies, so having her alive in Sedna is preferable to her being dead in Nova when it comes time to lose to the Shanjian Army. Plus disregarding the border dispute, Talarist doesn't... come across as overtly evil (I do find the cruel Elodie disappointment to be amusing)

*cautiously revives thread*

I tried making a list of my fave Elodie end-pairings, but let's just say it was inconvenient.

It's easier to name the ones I'm less fond of: Linley, Adair, and the Foreign Duke of Intrigue, mostly. (I ant my marriages of convenience to be with people I've annoyed during the game, thanks.)

Ignatius gets a special mention for having an epilogue I find very sweet when Elodie's an angel of music, and yet... this epilogue paints him in an unpleasant light as far as I'm concerned. (I killed your sister, Ignatius. The least you could do is poison me. Or attempt to kill me on our wedding night. Or, I don't know, politely turn me down while citing you don't actually resent what I did. Anciet doesn't marry me when I do away with his aunt or uncle, and the Good Lady knows he wasn't close to them by any measure!) Very sweet and very funny when Briony's alive, but I don't like to dwell on this outcome aside from that.

I'm inordinately fond of the endings where Banion and Elodie are on the same page - whether it's the flowerboy wedding or the affair behind Thaddeus' back. The more I play the more I like Banion, really, he's so terrible. It's not just that he's doing his utmost to marry Elodie evey way he can, it's that... so many of the things he does are dangerous or counter-productive. Why is he sending an assassin after you then disappointed if he accidentally kills you in a duel the vey next week? Why does he take Elodie up on her offer to carry on an affair behind Thaddeus' back? That's not the straight-forward powerpowerpower he aims for. Truth is, I think Banion likes complicated things. (My opinion on Banion is that he has way too much free time and has delegated the actual managing of his domain to a series of administrators that may or may not be embezzling wildly out of Maree's treasury.) His sneaky, smiling, intrigue-and-conversation back-and-forth interactions with Elodie make me very happy. Very Happy

Also very very fond of the Brin, Banion-and-Brin, Briony, and Evrard endings. I adore the Kevan ending - whether it's normal Elodie or cruel Elodie. See what I meant about it being hard to choose? My favourite Thaddeus marriage is the angel of music version (so heartwarming!) - and, again, the one with the Banion affair. Which is still pretty heartwarming in a weird way and which can fit an OT3 narrative. I like Talarist when you choose him at the end of the game, especially when you've suspected him of having Adair killed. Anciet's epilogue is unbearably cute, as is the Earl of Pastry.

I haven't done as many variations about Brin as I'd like to - and so far most of my runs have been rather vanilla (aiming for Best Possible Endings and avoiding civil wars and rebellions and votes of no-confidence >_>), so there's still some room for things to evolve. I did get the incredibly bittersweet ending where Elodie marries Brin. The one I'm set on figuring out next is getting Joslyn to marry Brin so I can marry Banion without it turning into an OT3.

This did take a while.

I think Ingatius plain old doesn't like his sister. After all, the old Duke of Ursul made a point of disinheriting him so Juliana could inherit. Possibly something to do with magic? Perhaps Ignatius refused the magic, or perhaps he didn't have a talent for it and Juliana did. Anyway, if you imprison Juliana and he comes to visit, he doesn't try very hard to get her out. He's decent enough that he's not actively lobbying for her to remain in the dungeon, but if the Queen decides she stays locked up and he gets to be duke, he's perfectly alright with that, and IIRC will absolutely vote for you if you face the no-confidence vote.

Iirc, he abstains rather than plainly siding with you, but I get your point. But there's a difference between "resenting one's sister because she was Dad's favourite" and "being happily married to person who killed your sister", or at least I think there is. It's pretty bad when the character I'm considering loses out to Banion on moral ground.

Otoh I'm fine with Bennett actually siding with Elodie during the vote if Elodie had Brin executed. Maybe because Bennett gets his shining moment with Lieke and Gwenelle at Gwenelle's birthday party - he hates his siblings, but he cares very much for the family he made for himself. Ignatius doesn't have a scene that would make him similarly sympathetic imo.

I agree with your theory that Ignatius got passed over because he wasn't a Lumen, and raise you the following. We don't know whether children of a Lumen all potentially possess Lumen powers or not, but we do know that all the dukes/duchess before 200 ago were Lumens (and Julianna doesn't mention that Elodie/Charlotte/whoever might not have Lumen potential). I think the canon skews toward the idea that every child of a Lumen can potentially become a Lumen. That would mean either that Ignatius got passed over for that, too, or that he didn't want it.

I think Ignatius didn't want it. He didn't want to be the Lumen Duke. Paulus and Julianna are both considered at best as eccentrics. They're scandalous (in part because Lumen is closely linked to queerness in the game), and Ignatius... Ignatius is the guy who stayed with his wife when she started having an affair with her brother. If he'd left without having his own land to go back to, it would have been a huge scandal; everyone would have wondered what could have possibly happened (what Corisande could possibly have done) to make him leave. He buys into the status-quo. (Then Corisande goes and starts a liaison that's more scandalous than anything either Ignatius' father or his sister could have cooked up. I feel a bit sorry for the guy.)

So he turns his chance at getting the title down, because no way Paulus would've handed the title without the Crystal, and then he resents Julianna and probably hates himself a fair bit for every single choice he made. Then again it's quite possible Julianna was their father's favorite even before the Lumen issue, what with their peculiar-for-the-setting stances on marriage.

Yeah, I share the headcanon that Ignatius was disinherited for rejecting the Lumen crystal, though I suspect that the Ursul family dysfunction goes beyond that. I actually have an idea for a fanfic on that subject that I'll probably never write unless I can get some bits of the timeline worked out (including but not limited to: when Julianna was illuminated, when Paulus married Hyacinth, and whether Ignatius was still living with them. That must have been a weird year.)

Back on topic, I feel like I'm the only fan who thinks Brin doesn't deserve Elodie (or a title). And while Talarist has just about everything going for him, personally and politically, I just can't get over the near-certainty that he's the one trying to kill Adair.

On the other hand, Kevan is farther from perfect than either of those, and his "good" ending is my absolute favorite. "Good" is in quotes because I actually find it really sad, even though - or especially because - it's the closest thing to a happy ending he's likely to get. On the fluffier side, the Briony ending is adorable.

My favourites are Linley and Anciet. I cannot quite decide which, since I like both of them. Based on the descriptions, both should be rather sweet marriages. Then, there are the political benefits of tying either Kigal or Sudbury closer to the crown.

Re: Favorite Pairings for Elodie (endgame spoilers)

A lot of Ignatius' defense depends on the exact nature of his disinheritance, which is strictly in the realm of headcanons. If it was just a 'sorry, Ignatius, but if you're not willing to take the Lumen Crystal, you cannot be the Duke' it reflects badly on him, but if he was actually fully cast out, disowned and spat out by his dad and sister for unwillingness or inability to be a Lumen, then I can't really blame him for not exactly shedding too many tears for her when that very 'being a Lumen' ends up getting her imprisoned. I tend to think that the Ursul household was a pretty cold and stark place, simply judging by Julianna's cold and ruthless nature. She's on our side and all, but she has zero problem killing innocents, pressuring a young girl into doing dangerous things for the greater good and it's not for a personal loyalty to Elodie. So, given those traits, I don't imagine she's been much of a sister to Ignatius, so I don't consider his indifference towards her a moral failing.

But I do like the ending, because it gives poor Ignatius a break. I mean, his dad passed him over in favor of his sister, so he got married except his wife cuckolds him with her brother, then the divorce happens and he loses his child too. Guy got the rawest deal, and then, suddenly BAM, he's the king-consort (and of course, he got to be Duke again by then).

I know Elodie/Linley's pretty bland, but it's still sweet and peaceful. I can easily see their family being a big, loving, considerate bunch. Though Adair has to die to achieve that path, I kind of like Elodie marrying Linley, Duke of Elath. Proves he's not a scholar who only hides inside his study all day.

Elodie/Earl of Pastries and Elodie/Evrard is also lovely. I especially loved the Taste Tester ending where she actually ends up with Evrard. Also touching to see that the commoners' reaction-it's like the only people upset with Elodie are the nobles and she has her people's love, or that the commoners' hearts are big enough to be happy for their Queen despite her screwups.
