Lucille (spoilers ahoy)

Lucille (spoilers!)

#1 by GreenRowan - Jun 28 2012

I keep seeing that's it's possible to gain Lucille as an ally by giving her a court office. What needs to happen to trigger this? She just grabs Charlotte, goes home, and tries to kill Elodie over and over.

I hate having to always send assassins after her in the end.

You meet Lucille again at the Gala. If you pass the right check, that will trigger the option to recruit her. (I found this one quite hard to do but it is possible.)

Thanks, Chouette. I'll go back and try to figure out which skills I need.

Kirroha

You mean there's a way to give her a court position without the gala event? O:

(edit - moved out of thread talking about romantic endings)

yes, well.. today all i did was play. about 10 different endings Smile) and chose every single one of them. however before today. i either ended with banion or the earl of pastry. but never the option to choose

A certain someone who doesn't want Elodie having heirs will try to discourage you from thinking about marriage if she happens to be around at the end of the game. Smile

Kirroha

#7 by Kirroha - Jul 22 2012

Oh, can I ask why making Lucille Lumen Minister will stop her from trying to kill you? Given how she's been trying so hard to make Charlotte become Queen, it seems a bit strange how she'll give up all her plans because she's satisfied with her own position as a Lumen Minister.

Oh I keep hiring the spy all the time so I seldom get that. Does getting that prevent Elodie from getting married?

hanako

#9 by hanako - Jul 22 2012

Eh, I'd rather not give a detailed explanation. Letting people fill in theories from what's actually in the game is more fun. Smile

That's not the only thing that makes her back off, though. She does usually stop trying to kill you after your coronation. And there's at least one epilogue variant where she has a good shot at poisoning you and decides to pass on it, if you've given her something else she wanted (not the Lumen position).

Prevent in total, no, but it delays it and means you don't get as much choice over the outcome.

Kirroha

Wait, does keeping Lucille alive cause Elodie to become barren and unable to have children in the epilogue all the time?

Kirroha

#12 by Kirroha - Jul 23 2012

Aww, but I've always wanted to know what exactly was Lucille's motivation! This is just making me more curious. XD

What is that something else?

hanako

Wait, does keeping Lucille alive cause Elodie to become barren and unable to have children in the epilogue all the time?
Not always! There are several ways around that. But yes, that was her causing trouble again.

Woah. I never got that ending, her being barren I mean. I wanted to play Elodie as a little naive so I had her be powerful enough to sense the truth but just be like COME AND JOIN ME AUNTIE. Maybe if you have more magic than her? I'm not sure how I did it at all XD

We should really just have a Lucille topic, because she's pretty interesting.

I think she just secretly loves me. Whenever I keep her around I'm nice to her so she always ends up never screwing me over. It really depends on the Elodie I'm playing. Naive loving Elodie gives her Aunt anything at every opportunity, because she loves her Aunt and wants to support her remaining family. Evil Elodie sacrifices her daughter to the kraken. XD

If you give Lucille something she wants then she stops bearing such a grudge against you, so it won't happen in those cases. (Being a minister isn't the only thing she wants.)

Otherwise, if Arisse is acting as Elodie's advisor she may chase Lucille off, or if you have enough medical knowledge you may be able to fend off her attempt to make you barren iirc.

Can you tell me the ways to prevent Elodie from becoming barren, as well as the ways to give Lucille what she wants? Very Happy So far I mostly just do the spy thing, occasionally I kill her at the gala, or recruit her, so I haven't gotten to know much about it.

Upon further observation I think it's giving her the lumen crystal you get from the guy who murdered his wife if you beat him. Really I never got to be barren...disappoint.

Lucille will intentionally stop hassling you if you make her your minister OR if you make her Duchess of Merva for real. If you read Novan History 70 / Internal Affairs 20, this is something she's wanted all along but could only manage to sort-of get through her husband. This can happen if your dad dies and you have to frantically reassign dukes to cover all your territories, if you have that piece of Internal Affairs information in order to think of it.

But in general she's not suicidal and will also back down if it looks like it's too dangerous to continue. IIRC the poisoning only happens if the King Dowager dies and Lucille comes to the castle to 'comfort' you, and then is not chased away by Arisse or placated by the above.

Although I misremembered. If you have high enough Herbs you figure out that you've been poisoned but too late to do any good.

Kirroha

#20 by Kirroha - Jul 25 2012

Ah, I see. But making her Duchess of Merva can only happen in the endgame, right? Since your dad can only die near the end of the game.

Hmm...I've been trying for this one for ages, but even with completely maxed out history and intrigue, Elodie always just winds up leaving the position open. Do any other nobles need to die for the shuffle to occur?

Hazel

Is it just Merva she's interested in? Because if you get rid of both Brin and Banion successively, it's never mentioned who inherits the second duchy.

Hazel:

She wants her 'rightful' land in particular.
Because if you get rid of both Brin and Banion successively, it's never mentioned who inherits the second duchy.
Bennett has a son. Whose name is mentioned, although not in that context (she says, taunting you to pick through all the family trees and remember who's related to whom). Technically said son would get the second duchy dumped on him unless the crown interfered, so I left it at that.

Hazel

#24 by Hazel - Feb 12 2013

Oh! Oh! I know! It's Anciet, isn't it? I don't want to talk about how long I spent on the wiki character pages. Or how long it took me to make sense of Arisse's family tree.

Ramidel

#25 by Ramidel - Feb 13 2013

Incidentally, if Bennett is holding a double-duchy, I wonder why "the situation in Hellas and Maree is less clear" in times of civil war?

hanako

#26 by hanako - Feb 13 2013

The situation there is *always* reported as "less clear" in the civil war, just to save time - a heck of a lot of things could possibly have happened there, none of which are really directly relevant to the civil war's outcome. One could easily invent hypotheses as for why one or both of them might be with you or against you, or why the common people or soldiers in those districts might be more or less in favor of you than the actual nobility. It's intentionally ambiguous to let the player decide how confident they feel.

Hellas and Maree will never officially join the rebel side. Consider the geographical position and their lack of close ties to Arisse. The closest it gets is maybe through Lieke, if Bennett has power and Gwenelle sides with the rebels, and that's still stretching it, considering that they were quarrelling with each other shortly before the civil war breaks out.

They're not actually a variable factor in that fight.

Ramidel

#27 by Ramidel - Feb 13 2013

Ah. So you can't help your cause in the civil war by securing the loyalty of the South, then (more precisely, it's already loyal, for a given definition of "loyal"). That makes sense.

Hazel

#28 by Hazel - Feb 13 2013

Hellas and Maree really have nothing to gain if Arisse gains more power, she is already quite powerful enough to be a threat to them, politically speaking. That's one possible motivation.

I'm wondering this too. I've removed every noble I can and have both relevant stats maxed out, but I never get the option to give her a new title, in game or in the epilogue.

hanako

#30 by hanako - Feb 15 2013

It's supposed to happen in the epilogue if Joslyn dies against Togami, but both Laurent and Lucille are still alive and in power (so you didn't accuse either of them of treason) and you have enough Internal Affairs. Then Elodie makes Laurent the new Duke of Caloris and Lucille the Duchess of Merva. Not sure if I've personally checked it though.

Darksilverhawk

#31 by Darksilverhawk - Feb 15 2013

That definitely doesn't seem to be happening, at least in my games. the position is always left empty at the end, even with maxed Internal Affairs.

Mint.Locust

#32 by Mint.Locust - Feb 16 2013

A quick question that hit me the other day: If you let Juliana stay at the palace, then during the incident with the snake, both she and Lucille are in the gardens together. Why doesn't Juliana sense that Lucillle is a Lumen? If you kill Lucille at the ball, Juliana seems surprised when she finds out Lucille was a Lumen. Or did she already know, and just didn't expect Lucille to try to kill Elodie?

hanako

#33 by hanako - Feb 16 2013

Blame distraction, I suppose? Alternately, her sensing skills may not be as good as her other skills. Nobody's perfect. Smile

No particular sinister reason.

Gamer

#34 by Gamer - Feb 21 2013

I just don't know how to get the ending where Lucille gets her rightful land back. I've had both my Internal Affairs and Novan Affairs bars maxed out and that didn't work. I am also unable to save myself from her poisoning and rendering me barren although my Herbs, Battlefield Medicine and Poison bars are maxed out.

hanako

#35 by hanako - Feb 21 2013

It looks like there may be some bits broken in the epilogue - we'll check and do updates in the future, we've just been busy dealing with the steam linux stuff this week.
