Walkthrough

#1 by mjm1215 - Jun 24 2012

This is meant to be extremely detailed, so don't read it unless you've played through the game a few times and know most of what happens already. If you just want to know how to pass a certain section (and I've gotten that far), you can PM me and I'll try to help. ;)

This is mostly complete through week 16. I've been using the codes to test what skill numbers I needed to do certain things. I know this looks terrible on here. I've got an organized and color-coded file on my computer, but don't know if there's anyplace I can upload it to. I've got more of it done than this, but I didn't want to post parts that weren't even half done. And before you ask, yes I do have a life Very Happy (sort of), but my OCD personality makes organizational projects like this fun. Needless to say, there are a ton of spoilers in this.

Week 1:
Charlotte Arrives = +1 Cheerful
*- Visit your father = +1 Lonely
*- Visit Charlotte = +1 Cheerful

Week 2:
Julianna Arrives
Send Her Away = +1 Angry, +1 Yielding
You will be approached by Selene the priestess in Week 6, so you can still become a Lumen. You need to let her stay if you want to be able to sink the Shanjian fleet with magic (I think).
Arrest Her =
Let Her Stay = +1 Willful
Julianna becomes your Lumen advisor; opens up one path of becoming a Lumen (see Misc. Events). If you want to become a Lumen as early as possible, you need to let Julianna stay.

Week 3:
Julianna saves you from the snake (Let Her Stay in Week 2)
Hold still =
(Composure 10) = Nothing
Charlotte does not get bitten by the snake, but your uncle’s family leaves anyway.
(Composure <10) = +1 Afraid
Charlotte is bitten by the snake. Your uncle’s family leaves.
Look down = +1 Afraid
Charlotte is bitten by the snake. Your uncle’s family leaves.
Charlotte saves you from the snake (send Julianna away in Week 2)
(Reflexes 20) = +1 Angry
You are able to kill the snake.
(Reflexes <20) = +1 Afraid
Charlotte uses magic to heal you.
Week 4:
Update on Charlotte’s Condition (if she was bitten in Week 3)
(Poison 40) = B/G
You think it’s strange that Charlotte’s mother was able to cure her, even though most milk viper bites are fatal.
(Poison <40) = +1 Cheerful

Week 5:
You receive a gift from Talarist, Duke of Sedna
(Foreign Affairs 40 or Foreign Intelligence 10) = B/G
(Court Manners 10) = Choice to wear or not wear the necklace.
You realize wearing the necklace might send the message that you are interested in Talarist.

Wear it = +1 Willful
Talarist will arrive in Week 12 to formally propose to you. Also, Banion will ask about the necklace in Week 9.
Don’t wear it =
You won’t be approached by Talarist again, but you’ll still get the option to marry him at the end of the game.
(Court Manners <10) = +1 Cheerful
You automatically wear the necklace.

Week 6:
Selene the priestess says you need to become a Lumen (if you sent Julianna away)
(Lore >0) = B/G
I won’t do it =
I will do it = +1 Willful
Selene basically plays the same role as Julianna would if you let her stay.
Week 7:
Encounter with maid on staircase
(Elegance 10 or Reflexes 20) = Avoid collision
(Elegance <10 and Reflexes <20) = You run into the maid.
Apologize = +1 Depressed
Punish her = +1 Angry
Being cruel to servants lessens the common people’s opinion of you.
(Court Manners) = You are also given the option to “Accept her apology”.
Accept her apology = +1 Cheerful

Week 8:
Book Factory funding request
(Trade + Production 60) = Choice on whether to invest in the project or not
Invest =
The ending will display a section alluding to the fact that your country’s printing press has benefited people. These projects don’t cost much, so you should probably just do it.
Don’t invest =
You don’t get the extra piece of the ending, but you’ll have more money in the treasury.
(Trade + Production <60) = You automatically reject the proposal.
Same as “Don’t invest”..
Week 9:
Approached by Banion, Duke or Maree regarding the Ixionite occupation of Imbrium
(Foreign Affairs 20) = B/G
(Military >0) = Choice on whether or not to negotiate or prepare for battle
Try to negotiate = +1 Yielding
Prepare for battle =
(Military 0) = Automatically will try to negotiate, +1 Yielding
Banion asks about the necklace you are wearing (if you wear it in Week 5)
(Court Manners 10) = You realize Talarist really does intend to propose to you.
I’m considering it = +1 Cheerful
I just like jewelry = +1 Willfull

Week 10:
You receive the outcome of the battle with the Ixionites (if you chose prepare for battle in Week 9)

Command her to marry an Ixionite =
(Internal Affairs 40) =
You explain the situation to Brin and she doesn’t seem to be as upset.
Execute her = Cruelty
(Internal Affairs 60) =
You make Brennan, the Countess of Dis’s husband, the new Duke of Hellas. Banion will insult you at the gala.
Surrender provinces = +1 Yielding, +2 Depressed
Offer money if Ixion withdraws =
(Accounting + Trade 50 or Logistics 50) = Option to make a counter-offer
Make a counter-offer = +1 Willful, +1 Pressured, -$5,000
Agree = +1 Pressured, -$8,000
Refuse = Back to your other options
Bluff/intimidate him =

(Internal Affairs 30) = B/G, You get the option to ask the Earl of Io about the woman’s story.
Ask Earl of Io about her story =
(Court Manners 60) = She goes to prison peacefully.
(Court Manners <60) = The Earl slits the woman’s throat.
(Internal Affairs 100) = You’ll get the option to tell her that justice was already done.
Tell her that justice was already done = She goes to prison peacefully.
Put her to work = She’s forgiven because she didn’t “finish the job”.
You’ve made Kevan very angry.
Imprison her = She attacks you.
(Archery 60) = You knock her out and the guards take her.
(Archery <60) Your guards kill her.
Execute her = She attacks you.
(Archery 60) = You knock her out and the guards take her.
(Archery <60) = Your guards kill her.
You’re mean.  You’ve got a hidden Cruelty attribute, and it will rise if you execute her. Cruelty makes you more intimidating, and can change the text during the ending to say that you’re a terrible human being (although you could still be a good queen).

Week 14:
You see an owl with a dry leaf
(Divination 60) =
You know someone important will die soon. This gives you the option to speak with Fabian at the gala to determine what should be done with Adair when he dies.
(Falcons 50) =
A woman requests funding to build a hospital
(Herbs + Battlefield Medicine 50) = Can decide to invest or not
Invest =
You’ get an extra section of the ending text that explains the hospital’s benefits to the country.
Do not invest =
No hospital. But you save money.
(Herbs + Battlefield Medicine <50) = You automatically reject the proposal.
Same as “Do not invest”.

Week 15/16 (much easier to combine them):
You are asked what you are going to do for the upcoming parade
I will lead the parade = +1 Cheerful, +1 Willful, +1 Pressured
(Elegance 70 or Decoration 70) = success
(Decoration 50) = partial success
Passing these skill checks mean people will be impressed with you. Needless to say it takes some effort to get all of these stats up that high halfway through the game. It’s not a big deal if you fail them if you’ve got the necessary Court Manners + Flattery skills at the gala, and haven’t made any nobles really angry with you.
I will lead the parade and make a speech = +1 Cheerful, +1 Willful, +1 Pressured
(Elegance 70 or Decoration 70) = success
(Decoration 50) = partial success
(Public Speaking 50) =
The more of these you pass, the more impressed with you people will be, and probably the more unimpressed if you fail since you were given the option to make the speech.
I would rather not go = +1 Yielding, +1 Lonely
People will be disappointed but there will be no assassination attempt in any case. Also you can’t put forth a “bad” impression of your skills aren’t high enough.

I finished the ball week. I still don't have the part where Banion challenges you though.

Week 17:
Your entrance to the gala
(Elegance 50 or Presence 50 or Composure 50 0r Decoration 70) =
(You fail all 4 checks) = +1 Afraid, +1 Pressured
Dancing (If you got engaged to Talarist in Week 12)
(Court Manners 40) = You tell yourself it may be rude to dance with others while you are engaged to Talarist.
Dance with Suitors =
Whoever you dance with, unless it’s someone scandalous or already married, will be added to your list of potential spouses at the end of the game. The scandalous person will be Julianna (if she’s there) or Brin.
Someone your own age =
Someone younger than you =
Someone older than you =
Someone already married =
Someone Scandalous = + 1 Willful
(Dance 50) = partial success
(Dance 90) = complete success
I’m not quite sure what this does, unless it’s just another way for you to impress the nobles (probably).
Refuse =
Dancing (if you’re not engaged)
The same as above, except you don’t get a court manners skill check. You don’t get the option to refuse dancing either.
Speaking with Fabian (if you read the owl’s omen correctly in Week 14)
(Foreign Intelligence 70) = B/G
Talk to him =
(Conversation 50) = You’re more polite when speaking to Fabian about the idea of him dying.
Say nothing =
More socializing at the gala
(Court Manners + Flattery 70)
Again you are aiming to impress the nobility. Note that if you totally screw all this up, someone will declare civil war on you later on. If you raise your military knowledge enough, that won’t be much of a problem.
Banion tries to trick you (if you made Brin marry an Ixionite)
(Court Manners 40) = You figure out what he’s doing
Accept =
(Court Manners 40) = You can choose between “I plan to use you” or “I plan to marry you”.
I plan to use you, then drop you = +1 Willful
I plan to marry you =
(Court Manners <40) = +1 Yielding, +1 Pressured; You automatically nasically agree to marry Banion.
Refuse =
(Conversation 50) = You properly deflect Banion’s reasons on why you should marry him.
Banion openly insults you (if you made Brin a commoner or had her executed)
Detecting your Aunt Lucille’s power
(Sense Magic 80) =
You can detect that your aunt is a Lumen.
Offer her a court position =
Aunt Lucille becomes your Lumen minister. This gives you the achievement in the checklist, and makes it possible to sink the Shanjian fleet with magic (if Julianna is there too). Lucille also stops trying to kill you if you appoint her.
Keep her a secret =
Pointless.

(Sense Magic 100) = You get the option to accuse her.
Accuse her = She’ll try to kill you.
(Resist Magic 80) = You kill Lucille.
(Resist Magic <80) = DEAD
