Big List of Skill Check Values (spoilers)

#1 by Rhidian - Jun 6 2012

Ever wonder how much of a skill you need to pass a given check? Want to know what value to train up your skills to get the maximum benefit (potentially)? If so, check out this big list of skill check values below.

Here's a general rundown of what the skill groups are used for:

Rhidian:

Really, it's all about who you make angry. The skills in general tend to be like this:

Social Skills- Used to keep people happy (or at the very least, not angry)

Physical Skills- Used to avoid assassination attempts (from the angry folks)

Intelligence Skills- Used to get more information on what's going on behind the scenes

Lumen Skills- For when you need to fight magic with magic

Mind you, this is just a general description of what they're used for, as all the skills have various niche uses throughout the game. In the end it's a combination of choices and skills that will get Elodie to the throne. Cool
(Yes, I'm quoting myself Cool I figured it's relevant here with these skill check lists)

Note:This list is a big compilation of all the skill checks in the game, sorted alphabetically. This list doesn't mention what week they occur in; the list that *does* is a few posts below. I'll say this now: You will not encounter all of them (due to diverging plot lines), so training your skill up to a certain value beforehand (using this list) has the potential to not do anything at all for you.

This list most likely is not full; if you know of a check (and the value that is checked) that isn't on here, then please post it.

And here it is:

That is one impressive list!

What's your technique to figure thresholds out? Trial and error?
Or did you figure out appropriate debugging console codes? ^^

Rhidian

#3 by Rhidian - Jun 6 2012

I didn't do trial and error, nor did I use the debugging console (though I do know various things about it). Rather, I applied my 'technical knowhow' to find it out (as Hanako termed it in that other thread Cool ).

Like many things, it's straightforward (though tedious) if you know where to look.

Just updated the list with what are probably the last additions that I make myself. Feel free to post any updates/corrections into this thread.

Atarun

#5 by Atarun - Jun 8 2012

The very first Compusure check is missing. When there's a snake at your feet and you try to stand still, 10 in Composure is enough, so I assume the skill check is Composure >= 10.

Muse

#6 by Muse - Jun 8 2012

Are these in order of appearance in the game? I wasn't totally sure how to apply this to such a random game.

Insanity66

#7 by Insanity66 - Jun 8 2012

Where is the cruelty skill? I don't remember seeing this in the game?
Oh, and the last line could be wield magic (don't know how high) + swords, if I'm not mistaken.

Rhidian

#8 by Rhidian - Jun 8 2012

The list is ordered alphabetically by skill name (and for multiple checks at the same time, the first skill on the left). It would take at least 9001 times more effort to figure out what value each skill check in a given week needs by myself (and due to diverging story paths and skill checks as well).

Cruelty is a hidden stat, which I believe mainly has to do with achieving the Evil Minion part of the checklist. I believe it increases by 1 every time you do an evil action (like executing someone, or by Hunting while Angry).

Rhidian

#9 by Rhidian - Jun 8 2012

As useful as a big list can be, it *would* be a lot more useful if they were further organized, wouldn't it? I suppose an ongoing project that everyone can contribute to is seeing which skill check goes with which week.

Note: This list doesn't say which choice requires which check (nor is it taking into account whether you'll see the check at all, due to divergent plot lines and such)

It is a lot more spoilerific than the big list in the first post...
But regardless, here we go Cool

Week 3:
Composure >= 10

Week 5:
Foreign Intelligence >= 10
Foreign Affairs >= 40
Court Manners >= 10

Week 7:
Elegance >= 10
Reflexes >= 10

Week 8:

Misc. Events
Treasury:
Accounting >= 60
Presence >= 70

Julianne, about her Lumen friend:
Lore >= 70
This list doesn't have any of the fatal skill checks, since I didn't test it on a playthrough where I make everyone angry. In general though, any event that Elodie can skip or not participate in is potentially an assassination attempt.

After my 20th playthrough i started compiling a list to get to specific endings, however i dont have your technical knowhow so i had to go through trial and errors, which could result in backtracking SEVERAL weeks just to pass ONE skill test >.<

Including the events on how you use your "intrigue", spies and all Razz

However, im fairly sure that "Hanako" posted some reasons for not posting everything upfront, Cheat codes ^^

You could always PM me or otherwise let me know you want the debugger console codes, and I'll send you the list I have been sending others Cool

@Rhidian
I've started making my own list of events by week. How about we create a wiki so that we can collectively build that "detailed walkthrough" (for lack of a better name that'd come to mind at such a late hour)?

I think 'detailed walkthrough' is the wrong word to use here... Myself, I don't want to be walking any player through the game (telling them what classes to take, which options to do, etc etc), since that removes too much of the fun (in my opinion). I limit myself to just giving information on what exists; I leave it up to others on what they do with it.

That being said, having some sort of list that says:
1. Which week an event occurs (like week 17 for the ball)
2. Which choices can be made, and
3. What skills are needed to pass that choice

is probably what we would make. It would be a lot of effort though... there's a lot of choices that can be made, which affect later things in not so clear ways. As long as I'm not the one making the wiki and/or compiling everything together, I'm all for it Cool

Well, I've updated the Big List of Skill Checks (by Week) up through Week 10. No fatal skill checks yet, but I will probably miss some later on since I'm purposely passing all the checks (and being friendly with everyone) as I progress on this skill-check-playthrough.

As I said, it was very late and I knew the choice of words was very poor. ^^

OK, I'll try to set that up as soon as I get a little bit ahead of my current workload. ^^'
As for anyone compiling everything together, the whole point of making a wiki is that nobody will have to do that:
If we all make separate lists, then somebody has to compile them or users have to use them all simultaneously, which would be a huge pain in the neck. With a wiki, everybody can contribute to the same list, no compilation needed. Cool

Thanks for the offer, however i preffer to explore the hard way, keeps my interest in a given game for longer and a feel a bigger achivement when finishing

Due to various RL reasons, I won't be actively updating this list for a while (though I will still respond to PMs and stuff). The list is now up through Week 17. No one has tried to kill Elodie yet on this playthrough, so I don't know what the check is for the assassination attempts made before the ball.

Edit: Seems there's one assassination attempt at that parade, which depends on making someone not happy.
