(Making a few help topics for particular events in the game so people can discuss how to GET the event, how to AVOID the event, and how to SURVIVE the event.)

Civil war only happens if the nobility is disappointed with your progress as leader. Various things will please and annoy them in small amounts. Generally, you want to look smart, strong, and in control. Your social skills at the gala can make a big difference in how they perceive you.

If you want to start the civil war, then try doing things that will seriously irritate the nobles like giving away territory to Ixion, raising taxes, and getting Adair killed.

If you want to avoid it, pander to noble interests to keep them happy, or have the ringleader assassinated before the war can kick off.

This one is fun, but it's hard to win this without uber high military. So if you get it, make sure to switch from a mood that makes that bad and raise your military stats.

The ringleader for the rebellion is always the same regardless, this I noticed. As such, I believe there's one failsafe way to avoid civil war completely and utterly.

Just don't give lands to Arisse.

Easy.
