Cameras?

#1 by FantasyFan - Aug 27 2011

Something that confuses me. It's against the rules for Ellen to have a camera, but then at the end of the school year, people get their pictures taken for the school yearbooks. What do they use to get their pictures taken? Are there special magic cameras like in Harry Potter?

Not magical cameras, no. (Mixing magic and technology VERY BAD!)

They do, however, have spells that can allow them to create permanent images on paper or canvas. And bookbinding spells. Making yearbooks overnight requires magic!

I was wondering the same thing! Also, Professor Grabiner says he enjoys chamber music, but does that mean he has to go to concerts? Or do they have magical CDs, too?

I was really intrigued by the magic vs. technology issue, and it made me wonder whether adult witches and wizards (ones who have been fully educated/indoctrinated and are real members of society) are allowed to use certain kinds of tech, since, presumably, they can be trusted not to meddle with it? I guess I'm just curious about how magical folk manage without the electronics and such that we take for granted.

I'd rather not answer too many questions on that subject right now as a lot more details will slowly trickle out over time from game to game.

However, I can say that the mention of chamber music was intended to suggest music played by a small number of people in a private room. That doesn't mean that all wizards do it that way - Professor Grabiner's upbringing is very different from, say, Virginia's.

Ah, bookbinding spells, that's awesome.
