Grabiner's Romance

Grabiner's Romance

#1 by maldemer - Jul 2 2011

I want to get a romantic ending with Grabiner, but nothing ever happens at the end! Can someone give me a hint? Do events BEFORE the wedding matter that much, or can I load my save from the wedding and get a romantic ending?

I would have thought you could probably go forward from your wedding save. What is important is being patient and not too nosy about his past, I think. Seek him out whenever you have the option and let him know you value his opinion. For the romantic ending you definitely need to not go to the final ball. I hope that helps. Good luck!

Spoilers:

Also when you're Sue is getting shunned after everyone finds out about the marriage there's an option where you have to decide whether or not you want to go talk to people or just give up (sorry vague it's been a while). Give up and that opens more dialog with Grabiner because in your loneliness you'll seek him out.

I thought the options at this point were to give up or talk to Grabiner? Giving up implied not pursuing things with Grabiner?

@junsei7

It might? I don't remember the wording honestly. If the option is clearly go talk to Grabiner then that's usually a good choice. I need to stop giving advice until I've replayed some of these routes honestly.

@perch

I thought it might have been one of your sneaky routes to awesome scenes that you find so well. Smile

Haha. No, just a brain fart. The only stuff for Grabiner I've done recently was play around with two romances at once. Like remember when we discovered that if you were on Donald's path and then married Grabiner you could get scenes where you patched things up with Donald? I did the same thing to get scenes with Virginia and Ellen to see how they react to the situation.

Damien also has extra scenes where he forces you to choose if you're seeing him and Donald at the same time. I felt really bad for Donald in that one. I don't know if it can happen with Damien and Ellen or Damien and Virginia too. I haven't tried yet.

@perch

How did it go with Virginia? I remember trying it with Ellen and not really getting anywhere - she didn't seem to forgive me for standing her up. But I may not have followed through well. I find both of the girl romances tough work without enough reward along the way so I can easily believe I didn't work through the options thoroughly enough to find a way to make it work.

I remember that horrible disappointed conversation with Donald when I picked Damien over him. It was crushing!

@junsei7

Spoiler:

You find out when the rumors start going around that Virginia was responsible for some of them. I don't think she is ordinarily, just if you were on her path and then married Grabiner. There weren't any other scenes with her because I'm pretty sure finding that was a deal breaker, but I'm not sure I found them all.

The girls can be hard. I find Ellen to be easier and I like her ending variations, just not getting there. I think it's because Donald is just so easy and Damien is tempestuous, but not that hard to keep up with so the girls feel harder than they should.

I think you're right - it's just in comparison they suffer. I do like both their endings/variants, but I don't get the sense of bonding over time that you get with Grabiner and Donald (or the drama of Damien).

BTW did you get anything to happen with Ellen's conspiracy other than the night you join and get ranked? Did I miss something there or was there not really follow through?

Joining Ellen's conspiracy correctly (or the equivalent action if you're on the variant where she does something other than form a conspiracy) affects whether or not she's willing to go home with you for the summer. However, in either case, whatever she's up to is a long-term project. She's not making any earth-shattering breakthrough in the remaining months of the school year.
