Cannot play Cute Knight Kingdom

I have just installed Cute Knight Kingdom on my laptop. When I run the game, my screen's resolution is automatically reset to a very low resolution and only the upper left portion of the game is displayed (in other words, the game appears too large for my screen). When I exit the game, my resolution goes back to normal.

I am running Windows 7, but this game states that it is compatible with Windows 7. I have never had this problem with any other program. Any ideas?

What's the normal resolution of your laptop?

I would guess this is a weird interaction with the graphics processor and nothing to do with Windows 7. (I don't know that for certain, but it seems most likely)

The first thing I would suggest, therefore, is that you open the settings.ini file in the game directory and change Fullscreen to be 0. The game should then NOT change resolutions when it launches, and you'll be able to see if it otherwise runs properly on your machine. You can then handle resolution adjustments manually as desired.

I just tried to edit settings.ini. I opened the program in notepad and altered the setting as directed. However, when I try to save the file, I get a message that says "Access is Denied."

That's expected, but knowing what your default resolution is might give me some information about the graphics functionality of your particular laptop. I'm also curious about the aspect ratio.

That's... odd.

Now that is almost certainly Windows 7 behavior. The file in itself is not designed to be a protected file, but the "security enhancements" in later versions of windows do sometimes mean that the OS decides ALL files should be read-only, to stop users from making "mistakes". This causes no end of trouble (just google "windows 7" "access is denied" and see the pages and pages of help requests!)

While it's possible to switch off this feature, I'd rather not try to walk you through it remotely, as there are too many possibilities for confusion. If you know a good bit about UAC and permissions issues, feel free to poke at it... you may be able to edit it as administrator.

If not, you should probably uninstall the game version you have currently and I can upload a custom install file for you which contains an ini file with the flag already set. This will let you launch the existing game in a window and see if that allows you to play it without your graphics card fritzing.

(I would give you just the ini file, but I cannot trust that the "helpful" security won't prevent you from overwriting it!)

Thank you - that would be great! I'm pretty new to Windows 7 and I really don't know how to change the security settings. If you could send a copy of the file, already altered, I would really appreciate it.
