Why does mining lower Mind?

I was just curious, why does mining lower your Mind? It would seem to me that mining would require Mind to identify the gems and things you find, I don't see why it lowers your Mind instead.

silly answer: because mining is boring.

Historically, that's probably not accurate. Old-style mining in the real world was both very hard work and dangerous and you probably didn't have time to get bored. Nowadays I expect it depends on what particular job associated with the mine you have.

But assume that the character is spending most of her time digging up the same rocks over and over again. Only once in a rare while does something special turn up that needs identifying.
