Science Girls - Getting to the teleportal

I'm having trouble with this. The shift key points NE, but there's a river in the way. I can't get further north, though I've walked everywhere to try and circumvent the plant growth. To the southeast are boulders. What am I overlooking, here?

I think I know where you are. You need to head south, and there's a tunnel that bypasses the river and allows you to come out on the other side.
